de Jong Added To Defender Basketball

(Thursday, April 7, 2022; Sioux Center, Iowa) Willem de Jong, a senior at Kalamazoo Christian High School (Michigan), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program. 

De Jong averaged 10.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, three assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per game and is listed as a 6-3 guard. He earned first team all-conference, all-area Kalamazoo Dream Team honors along with academic all-state honors and twice was a second team all-conference selection.  

Begalke To Join Defender Soccer Program

(Thursday, April 7, 2022; Sioux Center, Iowa) Nikolas Begalke, a senior at Carl-Friedrich-Gaub Gymnasium (Germany), has announced his intention to attend Dordt University and join the Defender men’s soccer program.

“We have enjoyed getting to know Nikolas throughout the recruiting process,” commented Dordt Head Coach Ryan Gresse. “He will provide competition at outside midfielder from day one. Nikolas is a great addition for our program and makes our 2022 recruit class even stronger.”

(Monday, April 4, 2022; Sioux Center, Iowa) Ty Van Essen, a senior at Western Christian High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program.  

 “Ty has had one of the great careers at Western over his last four years.  He has always played well in big moments and is a State Champion.  His versatility gives him an opportunity to have a great career at Dordt,” said Dordt basketball coach Brian Van Haaften. 

DeWitt To Join Defender Soccer Program

(Wednesday, April 6; Sioux Center, Iowa) - Hailey DeWitt (Lincoln, Neb.), a sophomore from Southeast Community College (Neb.) has announced her intention to transfer to Dordt University and join the Defender women’s soccer program.

“We are excited to see the impact Hailey will have in our program, both on and off the field,” commented Dordt University Head Coach Alex Durbin. “Hailey is going to be a phenomenal fit here at Dordt.”

How much economic value does Dordt University bring to Sioux County? A recent study conducted by Emsi Burning Glass shows that, in short, Dordt creates “a positive net impact on the county economy and generates significant return on investment for students and society and benefits for taxpayers.”

The study, which was based on the 2019-20 fiscal year, examines the impact that Dordt alumni, student spending, visitor spending, volunteerism, and operations spending has on the Sioux County economy—and it unearths some fascinating facts.

Men's Golf Finishes Eighth At Park Spring Classic

The Dordt University men's golf team completed final round play at the Park University Spring Classic, a two-day, 36-hole event held at The Deuce Golf Club in Kansas City, Mo. 

The Defenders shot its spring-season best, 316, in today's final round to finish eighth overall with a 36-hole total of 641 (325/316). Dordt was one of five teams from the tournament field to improve on their first day score while also shooting its low 36-hole total of the spring season.

“We are excited to have Willem join our program.  He is a winner, as his team won the State Championship in Montana this past year.  He is a great Dordt fit, and will be a leader on this campus,” said Dordt basketball coach Brian Van Haaften.

Women's Golf Continues Spring Season At Concordia Invite

THE MEET

The Dordt University women’s golf team will compete in the two-day, 36-hole Concordia Invite on April 5-6. Both rounds will take place at the Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb. and will begin at 10am.

This is the third of six, two-day events scheduled for the Defenders during the spring season, which will conclude with the final two rounds of the GPAC Championship on April 25-26.
