(Thursday, April 7, 2022; Sioux Center, Iowa) Taylor Drent, a senior at Sioux City East High School (Iowa), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program.
(Wednesday, April 13; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference and Hauff Mid-America Sports have announced the softball pitcher-of-the-week for games played April 4-10 and Dordt’s Abby Kraemer (Junior; Alta, Iowa) has earned the honor for the second time this season.
Kraemer posted a 6-0 record last week with three complete game wins and another three wins in relief. Kraemer posted 38 strikeouts in 30 innings of work and posted a 1.40 earned run average. She had won 11 straight decisions from March 7-April 9.
(Thursday, April 7, 2022; Sioux Center, Iowa) EJ Fransman, a senior at Pella Christian High School, has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program.
“EJ is a great Dordt fit. He is a second generation player, as his father played at Dordt. His Pella Christian team got to the Final Four this past year, so he knows what it looks like to be successful on the floor. We look forward to his development as a player and a person in our program,” said Dordt basketball coach Brian Van Haaften.
The Event...The Dordt University men's track and field team will continue its outdoor season with a mid-week meet hosted by Northwestern College, the Red Raider Open.
The two-day meet begins Wednesday, April 13 around 3:30pm with the javelin and will conclude Thursday, April 14 in the early evening.
The Event...Week three of the outdoor track and field season sees the Dordt University women's team compete in a mid-week meet, the Red Raider Open. Competition will take place at DeValois Stadium on the campus of Northwestern College.

Dordt University student Acacia Phillips, double majoring in art and design and communication: digital media, will be presenting her senior art show “Behind the Scenes.” It is a mixed media show, with Phillips combining both her majors, and will be located in the Campus Center Art Gallery from April 25 to May 13. An art reception will be held on May 7 at 5 p.m. in the gallery.
Dordt University art and design major Melissa Laarman’s senior art show “Hands Reflecting Time” will be on display April 25 to May 14 in the Art Department Gallery located in the Ribbens Academic Complex. Her show consists of a series of photographs, handprints, and written reflection.
“All my artwork contains the subject of hands,” says Laarman. “As we journey through the seasons of life, our hands reveal the memoir that has been written.”
Dordt will travel to Yankton, South Dakota to face Mount Marty in GPAC play starting at 4:00 in doubleheader action.
Devyn Driesen, a Dordt University art and design major from Orange City, Iowa, will have a senior art show “One in Many” on display April 25 to May 13 in the Dordt Ribbens Academic Complex lobby.
Driesen’s show is a series of acrylic on wood paintings that depict individuals and their complexities. She was inspired by conversations in her classes this past year around diversity and individuality, leading her to highlight people’s differences.
The Sioux Center community is invited to Ag Day at Dordt University on Friday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day includes AgVestigations for elementary students and adults, and a livestock judging and crops ID contest for high school students. Other activities will include barnyard games, a photobooth, ag equipment displays, animals, and a smoked pork sandwich dinner offered from 11 to 1:30.
The event is hosted by the Dordt University Agriculture Club and welcomes guests to come and go throughout the day.
Dordt will compete in a two-day event at Hastings on Monday and Tuesday, Apri1 11 and 12 in men’s golf.
Dordt, Sterling, University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, Concordia, Hastings, Mount Marty, Columbus Community College, McCook Community College and Haskell will have teams at event.

Dordt will travel to face Hastings and Doane on Friday and Saturday, April 8 and 9. The games against Hastings will start at 4:00 on Friday and Saturday the games against Doane will get underway at 1:00.
Dordt softball vs Jamestown on Friday, March 25 has been postponed to Tuesday, April 19 starting at 4:00.
Dordt JV baseball vs Mount Marty on Tuesday, April 5 has been moved to Tuesday, April 12.
