On Wednesday, May 11, Dordt University juniors Alex and Derek Koops won Fox’s Domino Masters as part of team Dominerds. The team received $100,000 in winnings for their amazing domino art.

Kraemer Leads All-GPAC Selections For Defenders

(Wednesday, May 11; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference has announced its postseason honors for the recently completed 2022 softball season and three Defender softball players have earned all-GPAC honors.

Abby Kraemer (Junior; Alta, Iowa) was named to the first team while Karli Olsen (Sophomore; Spirit Lake, Iowa) earned second team honors.  Chandler Schemper (Junior; Sheldon, Iowa) was an honorable mention selection.

Dordt students compete in finale on Fox's Domino Masters

Dordt University will host a public viewing of the season finale of Fox show Domino Masters on Wednesday, May 11 at 7:15 p.m. in the Campus Center. Dordt students Derek and Alex Koops of Sioux Center are competing on Domino Masters as part of team Dominerds. Community members are invited to the event where they can meet Derek and Alex Koops, enjoy some snacks, and participate in a Q&A with the Koops brothers.

Kendal Zylstra, a senior accounting and business finance major, likes to stay busy. He’s a student assistant for the Defender men’s basketball team, a tax intern at De Koster & De Koster PLLC, a senior analyst for Defender Capital Management, a co-chair for the College Republicans, and treasurer for Student Government.

Also, as of this spring, Zylstra is running for Iowa House District 4. If elected, Zylstra will be the youngest member of the Iowa House of Representatives.

Woodruff To Run For Defenders

(Friday, April 29, 2022; Sioux Center, Iowa) Logan Woodruff, a senior at Greene County High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender track and cross country programs.   

Woodruff has personal bests of 17:59 on a 5,000 meter cross country course, 10:40 in the 3200 meters ad 4:50 in the 1600.  He has earned academic all-conference honors twice and his team’s runner of the year honor four times.  He was his conference’s 3200 meter champion and 1600 meter runner-up.  

Peacock To Join Defender Basketball

(May, 6, 2022; Sioux Center, Iowa) Ella Peacock, a senior at Resurrection Christian High School (Colorado), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program.

Peacock averaged 6.3 points and three rebounds per game as a junior and has dealt with injuries during the course of her high school career. Peacock is a 5-10 forward/guard.

Class of 2022 commencement ceremony

The Dordt University commencement ceremony recognizing the class of 2022 will be held on Friday, May 13, at 10 a.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. There are 370 students listed in the commencement program, many of whom will be present to walk across the B.J. Haan Auditorium stage. 

Dr. Walker Cosgrove, professor of history, will deliver a commencement speech titled “Love with Abandon.”

Vander Hart Joins Defender Running Programs

"I am excited to welcome Brant to our distance program.  He is an excellent fit for Dordt University and our program.  I look forward toto working with him and watching him develop over the next four years," said Dordt cross country head coach and assistant track coach Nate Wolf.

Baseball Recruiting Class Announced

The Dordt University baseball program has announced its recruiting class for the 2022-23 school year.  23 athletes from 17 states make up the list made public by Coach Nathan Bacon.

Joseph Anastasio is a senior at William Amos Hough High School (North Carolina) and also played for the Carolinas Baseball Club.  He helped William Amos Hough to a 14-0 conference record and will study engineering.   

Men's Track and Field - GPAC Outdoor Championship Preview

The Event...The Defenders men's track and field team will compete in the 2022 Great Plains Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship this weekend.

The two-day event will take place at Memorial Stadium on the campus of Doane University in Crete, Neb.

Competition gets underway on Friday afternoon, May 6, with the javelin at 4pm. A total of four events and four running events will continue throughout the day on Friday. The two-day championship concludes on Saturday, May 7 beginning at noon.

Kroeze Earns All-GPAC Honors

(Thursday, May 5; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference has announced its postseason honors for the 2021-22 season and Dordt’s Kerri Kroeze (Freshman, Orange City, Iowa) has earned honorable mention honors.

Kroeze finished 15th in the GPAC Championship field with an 86-84-95-84=349 to cap the season and was the top finisher for the Defenders.

Women's Track and Field - GPAC Outdoor Championship Preview

The Event...The Dordt University women's track and field team will compete in the 2022 Great Plains Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship this weekend.

Dordt University to hold Nurse Pinning Ceremony May 12

The Nursing Department at Dordt University will hold its spring pinning ceremony on Thursday, May 12 at 3 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. Seventeen Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students will be awarded their Dordt nursing pin.

The primary speakers will be Tianna Lee (’20), RN, BSN, from Luverne, Minnesota and Kacia Gerber (’17), RN, BSN, from Devlin, Ontario, Canada. Music will be provided by Hannah Burgsma (’22).
