(Wednesday, August 3, 2022; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt Defender football team is rated no. 21 in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) Football FirstDown PlayBook Top 25 Preseason Poll released earlier this week.
The Defenders finished the 2021 season with a 7-3 record, marking the fourth straight season the Defenders have won at least seven games. Dordt totaled 73 points in the balloting done by a panel of coaches representing each of the NAIA conferences. Dordt finished the 2021 season at no. 23 in the poll and is one of three Great Plains Athletic Conference teams in the initial rating.
“It’s always an honor to be in the top 25,” said Dordt football coach Joel Penner. “There are some tremendous football programs on that list. More than anything though, our eyes are fixed on what we need to do to play our best football. Our players and coaches are eager to begin training camp on August 11.”
The Defenders will open the season on the road against Briar Cliff in Sioux City, Iowa on Saturday, September 3. Dordt’s home opener will be against no. 1 Morningside on September 10. The Defenders will also play a Friday night game on October 7 against Mount Marty this season and the schedule features 10 games against the GPAC (Great Plains Athletic Conference) members and no non-conference games.
