The Dordt Defender men’s basketball team will host Concordia on Saturday, November 20 starting at 5:45. The game was originally scheduled for a 3:45 start but was moved to accommodate the NAIA Volleyball National Tournament Match at 1:00.
Concordia is 6-1 this season and 1-1- in league play and bounced back from a loss to Briar Cliff on Saturday with an 80-63 win over Midland on Wednesday night.
Carter Kent has a 15.6 points per game average with 4.7 rebounds and Justin Wiersema is at 14.6 points per game and Gage Smith’s average is 13.4 points per game with 7.2 rebounds. AJ Watson adds 10.9 points per game and is second on the team in three-point shots made with 12 while Kent has 13.
Concordia is outscoring teams 79.9-67.4 and converts 48 percent of the field goals taken and has a 37-33.6 rebounds per game advantage.
The Defenders are 6-2 this season and 0-1 in the conference. Dordt’s losses are to William Penn and Morningside and the Morningside loss ended a six game winning streak.
The Defenders outscore teams 87.1-71.5 and outrebound teams 39.8-33.8. The Defenders are also converting 51.7 percent of its field goals and make 35.5 percent of their three-point shots.
Bryce Coppock is scoring 15.9 points per game and Cade Bleeker is adding 14.0 points. Jacob Vis is at 13.0 points per outing with seven rebounds and Luke Rankin is converting 13.3 points per game with 6.3 assists per contest. Camden Bialas is at 7.4 points per game with 4.4 rebounds.
The Defenders are on the short end of an 88-75 loss to Morningside on the road Wednesday night after trailing 44-26 at halftime. Bryce Coppock scored 17 with four rebounds and Rankin, Bleeker and Vis all had 13 with Vis grabbing six rebounds while Rankin handed out six assists and took away six steals.
Concordia was ahead 40-27 at halftime and won an 80-63 decision from Midland on Wednesday night. Gage Smith led the Bulldogs with 24 points and he had six rebounds while Justin Wiersma added 18 and Carter Kent had 16 points and nine rebounds. Concordia was 27-54 from the field and made 12-23 three-point shots.
The two teams split the games last season with Concordia winning at home on November 21, 82-59 and Dordt won the February 3 meeting 75-69. Ryan Holt scored 18 for the Bulldogs in the first game and Wiersema also had 18 with eight rebounds while Smith scored 16 in the win. Garrett Franken led the Defenders with 17. In the second meeting Dordt raced out to a 39-26 halftime lead and won by six. Franken led Dordt with 18 and Coppock added 14 while Concordia got 19 from Smith and 16 by Kent.
Dordt will travel to face Briar Cliff on Tuesday, November 23 while Concordia is scheduled to host Jamestown that same night.
