(Friday, June 11; Sioux Center, Iowa) The 2020-21 Academic All-District Football Team, selected by CoSIDA, has been announced and three Dordt Defenders have been named to the NAIA District 3 team. The honor recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. David Kacmarynski (Senior; Pella, Iowa), Noah Clayberg (Senior; Pella, Iowa) and Alex Huisman (Junior; Pella, Iowa) were named to the team and will now be on the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot.
Kacmarynski is a repeat honoree at the district level and claimed CoSIDA Academic All-American honors in 2019. He’s a two-time first-team selection in all-GPAC voting and earned second-team honors once. He graduated in May with degrees in history and political science and plans to attend law school after maintaining a 3.8 cumulative grade point average at Dordt.
Clayberg was a first-team NAIA All-America selection for the 2020 season after leading the nation in rushing with 1,209 yards and he leaves Dordt with 2,987 passing yards and 2,281 rushing yards. He was a second-team all-GPAC pick at quarterback and an honorable mention selection in 2019 while also being named a NAIA Scholar-Athlete. Clayberg earned an undergrad degree at Dordt with a 3.74 cumulative GPA. He began studies for a master’s degree in public administration and earned a 4.0 GPA in that endeavor.
Huisman was a second-team NAIA All-American pick this season after helping the Defenders to 320 rushing yards per game (2nd in the NAIA) and 43.7 points per game (6th in the NAIA). He’s studying biology at Dordt and has a 3.83 grade point average through three years. Huisman was a GPAC honorable mention selection in 2019.
The Defender football program completed an 8-3 2020 campaign and qualified for the NAIA National Championship series for the first time in program history.
