Van Eps Named Regional Athlete of the Year

(Thursday, May 20; Sioux Center, Iowa) Regional Athletes and Coaches of the year for the 2021 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field season were announced today by the U.S. and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) . Dordt’s Matthew Van Eps (Senior; Prinsburg, Minnesota) was named the Midwest Track Athlete of the Year.

Van Eps is ranked second nationally in the 800 meters with a school record 1:49.59 and is undefeated in that event including a victory at the Drake Relays.  He won both the 800 and 1500 at the GPAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships and has 15 total first place-finishes this season. He’s on the 4x800 team which has the fastest time in the NAIA this season and the 4x400 team which ranks 6th in the nation going into the NAIA National Championship next week.

Van Eps has been a champion in four NAIA National Championship events, claimed NAIA All-American honors nine times and All-GPAC honors 21 times during his career.
