Men's Volleyball Plays Pair Saturday In Sioux City

Dordt will travel to Morningside to play two matches on Saturday, February 20. Dordt will face Morningside at 10:00 am and will play Ottawa (Kansas) at 1:00 pm.  Both matches are non-conference contests.


Tickets will be available at the gate.

Morningside is 0-3 going into the weekend and 0-2 in the league with losses to Jamestown and Dordt. Kahakai Kahoiwai averages 1.9 kills per set and Kyle Cox lofts 5.2 assists per set. Jonah Mika gets to 2.1 digs per set for a team that is scoring 1.6 points a set on blocks and surrenders 11.3 kills per contest.

Ottawa is 3-2 this season and 1-1 in the league and averages 12.8 kills per set with a .228 kill efficiency. The Braves are topped by Ashan Jordan with a 4.06 kills per set average to go with a .304 kill efficiency. Tyler Gardenhire and Cade Berg average 5.5 and 4.8 assists per set respectively.


The Defenders are 3-6 this season with a wins over Clarke, St. Ambrose and a conference win over Morningside. Dordt is currently 1-2 in league play.   

Caleb Kulesza leads the Dordt effort with 4.45 kills per set and a .297 kill efficiency. Andres Guzman has a 2.52 kills per set average and has a team high 13 ace serves and averages 1.88 digs per set and has handled 94 percent of his serve receptions cleanly. Luke Nelson is good for 1.39 kills per set and leads the team in blocks with just under one per set. Levi Vroom accounts for 8.55 assists per set and Boris Le’s assist average is 5.2. Levi Ewald leads the team in digs at 2.06 per set and he has seven ace serves.

Dordt has a .190 kill efficiency and 10.58 kills per set and the Defenders get 2.2 blocks per set.


Dordt lost to Ottawa on February 5 by a 25-19, 25-20, 25-19 score. Kulesza had 12 kills for Dordt and Ottawa was topped by Gardenhire with 11 kills.

Dordt beat Morningside on February 13 by set scores of 25-22, 25-9 and 25-22. Kulesza had 18 kills to pace Dordt and Kahoiwai had eight kills.


Dordt lost to Jamestown 3-0 on Tuesday night by set scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-21. Kulesza had 13 kills and Le accounted for 14 assists and Guzman had seven digs. Dordt had 27 kills and seven points on blocks in the road loss.

Ottawa lost to Jamestown on February 11 27-25, 12-25, 26-28, 18-25 with Jordan leading the way with 18 kills and Gardenhire had 22 assists and Berg 21.

Morningside’s most recent match was a 3-1 loss to Viterbo on February 13 by scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-14, 25-17. Kahoiwai and Godown had nine kills each.


Dordt will travel to Lacrosse, Wisconsin for a pair of matches on March 6 against Roosevelt (Illinois) and Viterbo before returning to conference play on March 12 at home against Ottawa. The Ottawa match will be the first of four straight at home to conclude the regular season.

Morningside 0-2/0-3

Hastings and Central Christian (Kansas) were scheduled to have teams in 2021 but have put their debuts off until 2022.  Briar Cliff disbanded their program in August 2020.
