Women's Basketball Hosts Midland Saturday

Dordt will host Midland on Saturday, January 2 at 2:00 pm in GPAC women’s basketball.

THE FOE…
Midland is 9-4 this season and 6-4 in the GPAC after starting the season with an 8-1 record. Since December 5 the Warriors are 1-3 with losses to Morningside, Concordia and Dakota Wesleyan.
Shawn Gilbert’s team is averaging 72.8 points per game while allowing 67.5 points per outing. Midland also outrebounds teams 44.5-43.4 and convert 37.4 percent of its field goals while opponents are making 31.8 percent of the shots they take against the Warriors.
Lexis Haase is scoring 13.1 points per game with 6.5 rebounds and Makenna Sullivan has a 12.6 points per game average to go with a team high 9.8 rebounds per outing and she is making 48.1 percent of her field goals. Peyton Wingert is at 11.3 points per game with 24 made three-point shots and Kennedy Damer has also converted 24 three-point shots and has a 6.5 points per game average. Katy Gathje is tossing in 8.8 points per game and has a 5.7 rebounds per game average.
DEFENDER NOTES…
Dordt is 7-6 this season and 6-4 in the GPAC and won five out of its last six games.
Dordt is outscoring teams 71.2-68.8 and outrebound teams 45.1-34.2. Dordt converts 39.4 percent of its field goals while allowing teams to make 39.1 percent. Dordt also has made 32.6 percent of its three-point shots while opponents have made 34.2 percent.
Ashtyn Veerbeek is scoring 14.2 points per game while grabbing 9.8 rebounds per contest and she is making 46 percent of her field goal attempts and she is averaging just over two assists per game. Bailey Beckman scores 13.8 points per game with just under three assists per game and she leads the team with 18 steals. Erika Feenstra’s scoring average is 12.9 points per game and her rebounding average is 5.2 and Karley Gustafson adds 9.0 points per game and she makes 52 percent of her field goals and she takes in 6.4 rebounds. Mya Chmielewski and Bailey Tetzlaff add 6.4 and 5.5 points per game.
LAST TIME…
Dakota Wesleyan beat Midland on December 19 by a 61-38 margin with the Tigers stretching a 30-18 halftime lead to 54-34 at the end of the third quarter. Wingert and Gathje each had eight points and Sullivan scored seven with seven rebounds. Midland was held to 11-62 shooting for 17.7 percent and made 2-20 three-point shots while getting outrebounded 57-34.
Dordt overcame a 36-35 halftime deficit to defeat Dakota Wesleyan 70-60, forging a 21-12 third quarter advantage and building a double digit lead that was never less than 10 in the fourth quarter. Bailey Beckman scored 15 and had four assists and Erika Feenstra and Ashtyn Veerbeek each had 14.
HISTORY…
Dordt beat Midland 70-58 on November 14 in Fremont after taking a 19-12 first quarter lead. Dordt led by as many as 17 in the third quarter and held on to win by the 12 point margin. Gustafson had 18 points and 12 rebounds for Dordt and Bailey Beckman scored 16 with five rebounds and three assists. Sullivan scored 15 and grabbed 11 rebounds for Midland in the loss.
