Women's Basketball Holds Spot In National Preseason Poll

(Wednesday, October 14; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt Defender women’s basketball is no. 8 in the 2020 Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 poll released on Wednesday, October 14. The Defenders were picked first in the GPAC poll released earlier in the day.

Dordt finished the 2019-20 season no. 12 in the Division II polling and qualified for the NAIA National Championship before it was canceled due to COVID 19. Dordt totaled 438 points in the polling duone by 21 coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups.

All totaled Dordt will return five of their top six scorers from last year and six who scored over five points per game.

Westmont (California) is picked as the preseason favorite in the single division poll and Wayland Baptist (Texas) is picked second.  Westmont totaled 17 first place votes.  Concordia (11) and Morningside (24) are also in the top-25.

Dordt is scheduled to open the 2020-21 season on the road against Dakota State on November 3.  The Defenders will play 25 regular season games this year and will open league play on November 14 against Midland before playing Dakota Wesleyan on November 18 in the first home game of the season.
