(Wednesday, October 14; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt Defender women’s basketball team was picked first in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Preseason Poll conducted in voting done by the 12 conference coaches.
The Defenders totaled 113 points and six first-place votes while edging defending conference champion Concordia for the top spot. Concordia had 110 points and five first-place votes. Morningside claimed third and the remaining first-place nod.
The Defenders had a 24-8 record last season and finished fourth in the GPAC regular season standings with a 15-7 record in the league. Dordt returns five of its six top scorers from last season and averaged 80.3 points per game while allowing 66.8. The Defenders also qualified for the NAIA Division II National Championship but did not play a game at the tournament as it was canceled due to COVID 19.
Dordt is scheduled to open the 2020-21 season on the road against Dakota State on November 3. The Defenders will play 25 regular season games this year and will open league play on November 14 against Midland before playing Dakota Wesleyan on November 18 in the first home game of the season.
