The Defender women’s soccer team will travel to Fremont, Nebraska on Wednesday, October 14 in GPAC play against Midland. The contest will begin at 5:00 pm.
Midland is 1-1 this year and both games have been played in GPAC action.
The Warriors have scored two goals and allowed two goals and have outshot teams on goal 15-12. Brittany Llanes and Bailey Locano each have goals and Rachel Thigpen has played 180 minutes in goal and ahs 10 saves with a 1.0 goals allowed average.
Last year’s Midland team was 17-2-2 and 11-1 in the GPAC. The Warriors advanced to the NAIA National Championship before losing in the first round in a shoot-out after a scoreless tie.
Dordt is 4-4-1 this season and 3-3-1 in GPAC play after a 3-0 setback to Morningside on October 10. Dordt is 3-2-1 in its last six games.
Dordt has outscored teams this season 18-15 and outshot them on goal 83-69. Alaina Van Zalen has five goals and two assists to lead the Dordt offense and Maddie Regnerus has three while Emma Visser, Claire Jansen and Katherine Kooiman all have two goals scored. Elianna Van Hulzen has played four games in goal and 335 minutes and has allowed three goals with 23 saves and a 0.8 goals per game allowed average. DeLynne Zevenbergen has played 294 minutes and has six goals allowed with 21 saves.
Midland hasn’t played since a 1-0 win over Presentation on September 18. That win was part of a weekend trip to Jamestown and Aberdeen. Midland’s win over Presentation came after the Warriors outshot the Saints on goal 7-2 with a goal by Llanes. Thigpen secured two saves in goal to preserve the shutout.
The Defenders lost a 3-0 decision to Morningside on Saturday and got outshot on goal 8-3. Morningside played from in front most of the way after scoring in the 8th and 17th minutes of the game. Van Hulzen had five saves in goal for the Defenders.
Midland turned away Dordt last year on November 2 by a 5-0 score. Nayeli Rodriguez had two goals for the Warriors and Midland had control most of the game with a 12-1 shots on goal advantage. DeLynne Zevenbergen had seven saves for the Defenders in goal and Thigpen had a save for the Warriors.
Midland leads the series 14-11.
Dordt will host Jamestown at noon on October 17 before traveling to Northwestern October 21 in GPAC play.
