Women's Soccer At Viterbo For Non-Conference Test

GAMETIME…

The Defender women’s soccer team travels to Lacrosse, Wisconsin on Saturday, September 12 in a non-conference contest against Viterbo.  The game will start at 4:00 pm.  The games can be watched on  https://portal.stretchinternet.com/viterbo/index.htm . THE FOE…

Viterbo is playing in its season opener after a 9-4-2 record in 2019.

The VHawks outscored teams 29-15 and outshot teams on goal 135-59.  Sydney King had eight goals and Abbey Kellner put six in the net. King also had five assists. Abby Breitbach played 1,179 minutes in goal with 13 goals allowed in goal with 39 saves and she had a 0.99 goals allowed average.

THE DEFENDERS…

The Defenders finished the 2019 season with a 10-8-1 record and finished fourth in the GPAC standings with a 7-4-1 mark. 

The Defenders have one game under their belt this season and turned away Mount Marty 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Dordt got a three goal performance from Alaina Van Zalen with Emma Visser and Katherine Kooima scoring the other goals. Visser, Katherine Kooiman and Sarah Miller all had assists for Dordt.

The Defenders outshot the Lancers 28-4 and outshot the Lancers on goal 13-3.

THE SERIES…

Viterbo was a 3-0 winner over Dordt back on August 22, 2019 in Sioux Center, Iowa. Megan Goodman had two goals for the VHawks and Sydney King had one. Viterbo had an 11-3 shots advantage and a 9-1 shots on goal edge. Karlee Kuyvenhoven had six saves in goal for the Defenders.

Viterbo leads the series 3-2.

WHAT’S AHEAD…

The Defenders open conference play on September 16 against Briar Cliff at home at the stadium at Open Space Park.
