Men's Soccer Hosts Non-Conference Saturday Action

GAMETIME…

The Defender men’s soccer team travels hosts Northwestern on Saturday, September 12 in a non-conference contest against at Dordt’s on-campus field.  The game will start at 3:30 pm.  The game can be watched online at www. https://livestream.com/dordtwebcast2 . Results will be available at www.dordt.edu/athletics  and at https://twitter.com/dordtdefenders.

THE FOE…

Northwestern is 1-0 after a 3-0 win over Missouri Baptist last weekend.

The Raiders were 9-10 last season and 6-4 in league play.  James Bolger scored three goals last season and is back for the Raiders and he had three assists. Jake Foscalina had 11 goals last season and is the top returning goal scorer.

It appears Ezekiel Foltz will fill the void at goalkeeper and posted a shutout in the first game of the season with eight saves.

THE DEFENDERS…

Dordt lost a 6-2 decision to Missouri Baptist on Monday and are 0-1 to start the season.

Patrick Munsey is back from last year’s team and scored six goals for Dordt. Gideon DeGraaf accounted for three assists in 2019 Garrett Vander Zee scored two goals for Dordt and returns. 

LAST TIME…

The Defenders led Missouri Baptist 1-0 at halftime on Monday but the Spartans roared back for a 6-2 win.  Dordt outshot on goal 23-8 with goals by Quintin Olson and Blake Hansen. Mitch Dryden had 16 saves in goal for Dordt.

The Raiders had a 2-0 lead against Missouri Baptist on Saturday at halftime and added a goal in the 54th minute. Josh Wingfield, Philippe Patri and Jake Foscalina all had one goal each. Ezekiel Foltz played all 90 minutes in goal and had eight saves on the way to the shutout win.

THE SERIES…

Northwestern won last year’s meeting 1-0 with a goal by Foscalina in the 43rd minute providing the game winner. Northwestern had an 18-10 shots advantage and put seven shots on frame to Dordt’s three.

WHAT’S AHEAD…

The Defenders open conference play on September 16 against Briar Cliff at home at the stadium at Open Space Park.  Northwestern will play Waldorf on September 16 before opening GPAC play on September 19.
