(Friday, June 5; Sioux Center, Iowa) Lucas Schneid Lopes, a student at AESC Objetivo Valinhos (Brazil), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender volleyball program.
"Lucas is a strong six rotation player. He is successful attacking both pins and will provide great competitive depth for us in a six rotation role. A special thank you to coaches Walter Kadu and Patricia Appolinário as they helped him become the accomplished player that he is. Lucas will be a wonderful addition to our campus community and men's volleyball program as he strives to grow in all areas of his life through The Defender Way," said Dordt volleyball coach Chad Hanson.
Lopes 2017 and 2018 he was named to the Renata Campinas team that finished in the top five in 2017 and top-three in 2018.
"I definitely chose Dordt University because all coaches and counselors I have talked with were very gentle and friendly. Secondly, Dordt is a place where I can develop my academic and volleyball skills while my faith grows," said Lopes.
Lucas is the son of Marcus V.O. Lopes and Rosemari Schneid of Valinhos, Brazil. He plans to study Biomedical Engineering.
Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian university rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).
U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
