(Tuesday, May 26; Sioux Center, Iowa) Lucy Borkwoski, a senior at Harlan Community High School (Iowa), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender track and cross country programs.

"I am excited to have Lucy join our team.  She is a great fit for our women’s distance crew.  She has been blessed with talent as a student, as a leader, and as a runner, and she will have the opportunity to impact Dordt University across each of those platforms.  I look forward to partnering with her the next four years in our distance program and watching her grow during her time here," said Dordt cross country and track coach Nate Wolf.

Borkowski has personal bests of 19:31 on a 5,000 meter cross country course and has posted personal bests of 11:21 in the 3,000 meters and 5:19 in the 1,500.  She placed 19th at the 2019 Class 3A State Cross Country Meet and claimed second at the Hawkeye Ten Conference meet.  She was an all-state academic selection and ran fifth at the Iowa Senior All-Star Meet. Borkowski also claimed 16th in the Class 3A 3,000 meters in 2019 and was an Army High School Athlete of the Year. She was a part of a fourth place finishing team at the 2019 State Cross Country Meet and an eighth place finishing team in 2018. Harlan also claimed team titles at the Hawkeye Ten and State Qualifying meets those two years.

"I decided to commit to continuing my running career at Dordt because I have discovered a deep passion in running and I love the strong Christian background Dordt provides. I am excited to keep using the running abilities God blessed me with through the running programs at Dordt University and I can't wait to connect with all of the wonderful ladies, coaches and faculty at this amazing university. God is so good! Go Defenders!" said Borkowski.

Lucy is the daughter of Steve and Holly Borkowski of Manilla, Iowa. She plans to study Biology at Dordt.
