GAMETIME…

The Dordt Defender women’s basketball team will travel to Seward, Nebraska to face the Bulldogs in the GPAC Semifinals on Saturday, February 29.  The game will start at 2:00 and can be heard on KDCR 88.5 FM.

THE FOE…

The Concordia Bulldogs are 29-2 this season and finished the league season with a 21-1 record and the regular season title. Concordia lost a 66-59 decision to Hastings on January 8 and also lost a non-conference game to Southeastern (Florida) on December 20. Concordia has won 15 games in a row since the Hastings loss included a 53-46 win on February 12 avenging that loss.

Grace Barry leads the team with a 13.7 points per game average and she averages nearly six assists per game. Barry also has 103 steals and is making 45 percent of her field goal attempts.  Philly Lammers scores 13.6 points per game and converts 51.5 percent of her shots and she is leading the team with 6.3 rebounds per outing. Concordia outscores teams 89.8-59.6 and is getting outrebounded 41.3-39.4. Teams commit nearly 33 turnovers per game and the Bulldogs averaging 74 field goal attempts per game while allowing teams to shoot just 56 times per game.  That disparity combined with a 44.9 percent field goal success rate with foes making 36.7 percent attributes to the 30 points per game difference.

DEFENDER NOTES…

The Defenders are 24-7 this season and 15-7 in the GPAC women’s standings. The Defender women have won four in a row since dropping three straight and are 7-3 in their last 10 games.  Of Dordt’s seven losses five are to teams that were ranked in the top-10 of the last NAIA Coaches’ Poll.

Erika Feenstra is averaging a team high 17.7 points per game with 5.7 rebounds and she is making 61 percent of her field goals and is 136-166 from the free throw line. Rachel Evavold and Karly Gustafson are averaging 10.1 and 9.8 points per game and have converted 61.5 and 53.7 percent of their field goal attempts. Bailey Beckman’s average is 7.7 points per game and Jordyn Van Maanen (5.9), Mya Chmielewski(5.9), Gabby Kreykes (5.8) and Baylee Tetzlaff (5.2) average between five and six points per game. Payton Harmsen leads the team with 40 made three-point baskets.  Gustafson and Evaovld average 6.5 and 5.3 rebounds per game respectively and Van Maanen is the leader in assists with 74 through 30 games.

Concordia then outscored the Warriors 21-6 in the third quarter on the way to the 95-46 win.   Mackenzie Koepke scored 19 and was 4-7 from the three-point line while Grace Barry added 15.  The Bulldogs were 36-68 from the field for 53 percent success and limited Midland to 13-53 shooting for 24.5 percent.  Concordia also forced 34 turnovers and had 29 steals.
