Dordt is on the road to face MidAmerica Nazarene on Friday afternoon and will face Park on Saturday. Both of the schools are located in suburban Kansas City.
MidAmerica Nazarene is 2-0 this season with a sweep of Oklahoma Wesleyan on February 22 to start the season. The 9-3 and 5-3 wins were played in Olathe, Kansas on Saturday. MidAmerica Nazerene batted .455 in the doubleheader and limited Oklahoma Wesleyan to .222 batting.
Brianna Carter, Emma Ryan and Kaleigh Bayless all have four hits this season and Bayless has a homerun and four runs batted in. Morgan Fouch has three hits and two doubles and is one of seven batters hitting over .400 through the first two games of the season.
Allison Denges and Sarah Melodia are both 1-0 on the mound with earned run averages of 2.1 and 3.0. Melodia struck out three and walked on in her complete game while Denges got the win in relief. Alexis Wilds struck out four in two and two-third innings.
The Defenders are 6-0 this season and are batting .412 after a six game weekend two weeks ago. Natalie Fopma is batting .500 with eight hits so far this season and Marissa VandenBerg has a .435 batting average with ten hits and three doubles with six runs scored. Chandler Schemper has a team high three stolen bases.
Abby Kraemer is 3-0 with a 1.11 earned run average and has pitched 19 innings with 18 strikeouts. Fopma is also 3-0 with a 1.40 earned run average in 20 innings pitched.
The Defenders and MidAmerica Nazarene haven’t played in recent history and Dordt and Park payed two years ago with Dordt sweeping those March 3, 2018 contests 7-5 and 2-1.
The Defenders will depart for Tucson, Arizona on March 6 and are scheduled to play 12 games from March 7-13.
