Men's Volleyball At Home Tuesday Night

Dordt will face Briar Cliff on Wednesday, February 25 at 7:00.     


The Briar Cliff Chargers are 9-4 this season and 3-1 in the league with a conference loss to Missouri Baptist.  The Chargers’ other losses are to Cardinal Stritch, Missouri Valley and Missouri Baptist (non-conference match).

Trevor Schirman’s team is averaging 12.95 kills per set with a .261 kill efficiency. Briar Cliff has a slight 2.29-2.19 points off of blocks per set advantage and are at a slight deficit in ace serves with 52 for and 53 against.

Brandon Oswald puts down 3.37 kills per set with a .253 kill efficiency and Riley Owen is good for 3.37 kills per set. Nathaniel Johnson and Ivan Trifunovic are averaging 2.14 and 2.11 kills per set. Kyle Cox has a team best 7.15 assists per set while Hunter Miller is at 5.09. Kimo Rosa has accounted for 20 of his team’s ace serves and leads the team with a 1.12 blocks per set average. Noah Marasco-Ayau averages a team high 3.14 digs per outing.


The Defenders are 4-5 this season and 0-3 in the conference configuration.

Dordt is averaging 10.54 kills per set with a .186 kill efficiency and the Defenders are getting to 9.77 digs  per outing with 2.21 points per set recorded on blocks.  Dordt also has 42 service aces this season and average 1.2 per set. Teams are hitting .187 against the Defenders and have recorded 36 total aces against the Defenders this year.  

Garret Vander Zee is tops on the team with a 4.31 kills per set average to go with a .237 kill efficiency. Caleb Kulesza is putting down 2.37 kills per set and he has a .171 kill efficiency. Brandon Vaags is good for 1.19 kills per set 1.0  kills per set and Shavon Barker, Luke Nelson  and Adam Van Elburg all average just under a block per set. The offense runs through Tyler Postma and he is putting up 8.4 assists per set and Levi Ewald accounts for 2.51 digs per outing.  


Dordt and Briar Cliff played on February 4 and Briar Cliff swept its way to a 25-15, 25-22, 25-17 win in Sioux City. The Defenders were led by Garret Vander Zee with 12 kills and Postma put up 22 assists. Ewald accounted for 10 digs to lead the Defenders.  Briar Cliff had a 10-4 points off of blocks advantage with a 3-1 ace serves edge. Riley Owen put up 13 kills and Brandon Oswald had 11 kills. Kyle Cox had 35 assists and Noah Marasco-Ayau had nine digs.  Kimo Rosa had four block assists and one solo block.


Dordt rallied for a 24-26, 21-25, 25-20, 25-18, 15-12 win over William Penn on Friday night behind 22 kills by Vander Zee and 14 for Kulesza. Postma recorded 44 assists and had 11 assists with a block and four assists. Ewald got to 20 digs and had two service aces.

Briar Cliff played the St. Louis School of Pharmacy on February 21 and took a 25-5, 25-14, 25-9 decision. The Chargers hit for a .397 kill efficiency and had six ace serves. Rosa put down 10 kills and Trifunovic had seven kills. Marasco-Ayau accounted for 13 assists and had two ace serves and Rosa had three aces with five digs and three block assists.


Dordt will travel to face Ottawa and Jamestown on February 28 and 29 in league play and will play Jamestown on the road on March 6 before returning home for a Saturday, March 7 match against Lincoln (Illinois).
