Vander Plaats Earns Weekly Honor For Second Time

(Wednesday, February 12; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference and Hauff Mid-America Sports have announced the indoor track & field athletes of the week for events held February 3-9  and Dordt’s Jacob Vander Plaats (Junior; Sioux Center, Iowa) has earned the honor for the second week in a row.

Vander Plaats ran the 3,000 meters at the Dakota Realty Alumni Meet hosted by the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota and ran a school record time of 8:32.4.  His time is the best in the GPAC this season and is the third best in the NAIA. The performance also met the automatic qualifying standard for the NAIA National Championship in March hosted by South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota.  Vander Plaats has also qualified for the National Championship in the mile and 5,000 meters.

Dordt will run at a meet hosted by South Dakota State University on Friday and Saturday, February 14 and 15 in the final preparation for the GPAC Championships on February 21 and 22 in Mitchell, South Dakota.
