Volleyball Hosts Morningside Wednesday

The Dordt men’s volleyball team will host Morningside in conference volleyball action on Wednesday night, February 12 at 7:00. The match will be available at .


The Morningside Mustangs are 1-8 this season and 0-1 in the league with a conference loss to Briar Cliff on January 29.  Morningside has lost seven matches in a row since a win over Lincoln on January 24.

Morningside has 10.26 kills per set with a .180 kill efficiency and they get 1.61 points per set from blocks. Teams average 13.58 kills per outing against the Mustangs with a .298 kill efficiency and score 1.77 points per set on blocks.  Morningside has given up 54 aces this season while recording 25 themselves.

Jackson Presha has a 2.87 kills per set average and Kyron Earls is at 2.1 kills per outing. Tommy Looper and James Cleare have 2.00 and 1.78 kills per outing respectively. Diego Aguilar is putting up 8.29 assists per set and he has 2.19 digs per set. Tatum Gray has a 3.03 digs per set average to lead Morningside.


The Defenders are 2-4 this season with wins over St. Norbert and Viterbo and losses to William Penn, Jamestown, Viterbo and Briar Cliff.

Dordt is averaging 10.36 kills per set with a .184 kill efficiency and the Defenders are getting to 9.36 digs  per outing with 2.16 points per set recorded on blocks.  Dordt also has 28 service aces this season and average 1.27 per set. Teams are hitting .212 against the Defenders and have recorded 26 total aces against the Defenders this year.  

Garret Vander Zee is tops on the team with a 4.36 kills per set average to go with a .231 kill efficiency. Caleb Kulesza is putting down 2.14 kills per set and he has a .148 kill efficiency. Shavon Barker is good for 1.18 kills per set and a .286 kill efficiency and he is averaging just under one block per set along with Luke Nelson. Tyler Postma puts up 8.32 assists per set with 2.00 digs.

Levi Ewald and Postma are at 2.23 and 2.0 digs per outing respectively and Vander Zee has a team high eight ace serves with Caleb Brandsma and Kulesza each have six aces this season.


Dordt lost a pair of matches to Morningside last season by scores of 3-1 in Sioux City on February 13 (27-29, 25-17, 26-24, 25-20) and 3-2 in Sioux Center on March 27 (17-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-21, 15-10).

Ben Tiemersma had 20 kills in the March loss and Vander Zee had 12 kills and 18 digs. In the February loss the Defenders were led by Tiemersma’s 19 and Vander Zee had 12. Postma put up 36 assists and Ewald had 12 digs.


Morningside lost a 3-1 decision to Missouri Valley on February 8.  Jackson Presha had 18 kills and Aguilar had 41 assists. Gray had a team high 18 digs and Demetrio Garcia had a solo block with three block assists.

Dordt lost a 3-0 decision to Briar Cliff on February 4. Vander Zee had 12 kills and Postma lofted 22 assists. Ewald was the leader with 10 digs and Vander Zee recorded nine.


Dordt will play on the road against Graceland on February 15 and William Penn on February 21.
