(Wednesday, November 27; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the basketball players-of-the-week for contests played November 18-24. Dordt’s Garrett Franken (Junior; Atlantic, Iowa) has earned the honor.
Franken scored 24 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had two assists with a blocked shot in an 86-68 win over Northwestern on Wednesday night, November 20. He followed that with an 18 point, six rebound effort against Briar Cliff on Saturday in an 82-63 win over the Chargers.
Franken has helped the Defenders to a 6-3 start this season and a 2-2 GPAC mark with a 16.3 points per game average to go with 8.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists. He is making 47 percent of his field goal attempts.
“Garrett had a really good week on both ends of the floor. His versatility really started to show last week. We are proud of his continued development,” said Dordt basketball coach Brian Van Haaften.
Dordt will host a pair of games this weekend at a Thanksgiving Day weekend classic. The Defenders will face Dickinson State on Friday night at 7:00 and Peru State on Saturday at 4:00. Dordt will resume GPAC play on Wednesday, December 4 against Jamestown.
