Senior Night For Volleyball Team

WHERE AND WHEN…

Dordt will be hosting Midland in GPAC volleyball on Wednesday, November 6. The JV match will start at 6:00 and the varsity contest is set to get underway at about 7:30.  The contest can be heard on KDCR 88.5 and video will be available online at https://livestream.com/dordtwebcast/volleyball .  Results will be posted to www.dordt.edu/athletics and https://twitter.com/dordtdefenders and also at https://www.facebook.com/dordtdefenders  .

SENIOR RECOGNITION…

At the conclusion of the match on Wednesday night the seniors who are a part of the program will be recognized at the De Witt Gym.

THE OPPONENT…

Midland is 17-9 this season and 9-6 in GPAC play.  The Warriors started the season with an 8-1 mark and stood 13-3 on September 28. The Warriors then dropped back to back five set matches with Morningside and Doane.  Midland also lost 3-2 decision on October 16 and 19 to the College of Saint Mary and Northwestern. Five of Midland’s six losses since September 28 have come by 3-2 counts.

The Warriors are averaging 12.92 kills per set with a .192 kill efficiency. Midland also gets 2.54 points per set on blocks and has a 165-88 service ace advantage this season.   Midland allows 10.36 kills per set and teams get 1.89 points per set on blocks against the Warriors.

Taylor Petersen averages a team high 2.7 kills per set while Maggie Hiatt is averaging 2.17 kills per set. Maddie Wieseler and Sydney Morehouse are each putting down 2.03 kills per outing. Hope Leimbach and Bree Burtwistle split the setting with a 5.53 and 5.44 average each. Brooke Fredrickson has a team high 44 ace serves and Burtwistle has 30 aces. Taliyah Flores is the team leader with 4.55 digs per set.

THE DEFENDERS…  

The Dordt women are 18-9 this season and 9-6 in the GPAC with losses to Northwestern (twice) and Jamestown (twice) and losses to Concordia and Hastings in league play.

The Defenders are averaging 13.5 kills per set with a .220 kill efficiency while allowing 11.55 kills per set.  Dordt has a 132-91 ace serve advantage and the Defenders generate 2.25 points per set on blocks while allowing 2.1. 

Karsyn Winterfeld averages 3.15 kills per outing with a .177 kill efficiency. Ally Krommendyk is averaging 2.49 kills with a .329 kill efficiency and Jessi De Jager’s kill average is 2.47 and her kill efficiency is .301.  Corrina Timmermans puts down 2.46 kills per set and Jori Bronner is averaging 1.79 kills per outing. Megan Raszler is putting up 8.4 assists per set and Winterfeld has a team high 43 ace serves and Erica Bousema is at 24.  Hannah Connelly leads the team with 4.42 digs per set and Winterfeld is at 2.35 and Bousema’s dig average is 2.06.

HISTORY…

These two teams played twice last year with Dordt winning the regular season meeting 3-0 on September 22, 25-20, 25-22, 25-22. Ema Altena led Dordt with 16 kills and Jamie De Jager had 35 assists. Krommendyk had seven kills and  Jessi De Jager had five block assists.  Jenny Bair had eight kills while Morehouse and Hiatt each had seven kills.

Dordt then hosted Midland in the GPAC semifinals on November 7 and took a 25-18, 15-25, 25-16, 25-15 win. Altena again had 15 kills and De Jager 35 assists with 14 digs. Krommendyk had seven kills and was in on seven blocks. Bair had eight kills while Hiatt and Morehouse each had seven kills.

LAST TIME…

The Warriors turned away Dakota Wesleyan on November 2 in Fremont 25-23, 17-25, 25-17, 25-11. Morehouse had a team high 11 kills and Hiatt added nine. Burtwistle put up 21 assists and Leimbach had 18 while Flores totaled 21 digs. Midland had ten service aces in the match against just six errors and allowed five service aces. Midland generated 14 points on blocks.

Dordt turned away Doane on Saturday night, November 2, 25-17, 25-20, 22-25, 20-25, 15-11 in Crete, Nebraska. Winterfeld had 19 kills and 13 digs while De Jager put down 15 kills and Timmermans had 14. Krommendyk accounted for 13 kills and had one solo and five block assists. Raszler put up 50 assists and Connelly had 29 digs.

WHERE WE GO FROM HERE….

Dordt and Midland will play again on Saturday night in the GPAC Quarterfinals with the winner of tonight’s match holding the no. 4 seed and host privileges while the loser will be forced to travel.  The GPAC Semifinal round is scheduled for Wednesday, November 13 and the championship match will be Saturday, November 16.
