(Tuesday, November 5; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt Defender football team is receiving votes in the most recent NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll released on Monday, November 4.
The Defenders are 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the GPAC with all three of its losses coming to teams currently in the top-12 of the poll. Those blemishes are to Morningside (1), Northwestern (5) and Keiser (10) and those three teams are combined 20-0 this season. The loss to Keiser to start the season dropped the Defenders out of the first in-season poll after occupying the no. 24 spot in the pre-season poll.
The Defenders are coming off a 70-28 win over Hastings. Dordt will host Briar Cliff this Saturday before concluding the season against Midland on November 16.
Morningside holds the number one spot and took all 17 of the first place votes in the poll conducted by coaches representing each of the NAIA’s conferences. Marian (Indiana) is second and Kansas Wesleyan third. Dordt took three points in the balloting and is one of three teams in the “Others Receiving Votes” category of the poll. This is the third week in a row Dordt is receiving votes in the polling.
