(Thursday, October 3; Sioux Center, Iowa) The most recent NAIA Women’s Volleyball Coaches’ Poll has been announced and the Dordt Defenders are no. 22 in this week’s polling of 21 coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups in the NAIA.
Dordt is currently 12-6 overall and 4-3 in league play after a 3-1 win over Briar Cliff in Sioux City Iowa on Wednesday night. Briar Cliff was in the ‘Others Receiving Votes’ category of the poll this week and Dordt continues its challenging schedule by facing no. 12 Grand View on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center. All six of Dordt’s losses are to teams in the top-18 of the poll.
“I’m pleased that through this bumpy month of September in the area of injuries, we have been able to grow together as a program and compete well in our matches. This ranking drop of three positions from the previous poll was not expected. We are going to have to recover some ground in the month of October to set up a strong conference finish and prepare for a great post-season,” said Dordt coach Chad Hanson.
The Defenders are one of five GPAC teams in the poll. Northwestern (2), Midland (8), Jamestown (11) and Morningside (25) are the other teams in the poll and two of those teams lost conference contests on Wednesday. Briar Cliff and Concordia were receiving votes as well.
The next poll will be released on October 23.
