Dr. Tom Clark, associate professor of mathematics, and Dr. Nathan Tintle, professor of statistics, have received a $3,000 grant from the American Institute of Mathematics (AIM) to support the Northwest Iowa Math Teacher’s Circle (NWIMTC) program.
As director of the NWIMTC, Clark has spent the past five years working to bring high quality professional development in mathematics to area teachers.
“Funding to support this important work is difficult to come by, so when I saw the opportunity from AIM I jumped at the chance,” Clark says.
Clark and Tintle intend to use the grant to fund a kick-off NWIMTC event with an outside speaker as well as provide support for meetings throughout the year.
“This funding is critical to keeping the circle going,” Clark says. “It will help teachers and students grow in the depth and breadth of their understanding of mathematics and mathematics teaching.”
