Five Softball Players Named Scholar-Athletes

(Tuesday, May 28; Sioux Center, Iowa) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Wednesday 510 women’s softball student athletes have been named 2019 Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar-Athletes.  Dordt had five players on the list. 

Rachel Evavold (Education; Junior; Bloomington, Minnesota), Jennifer Kooiker (Psychology; Junior; Tinley Park, Illinois) and Hope Veldkamp (Education; Junior; Edgerton, Minnesota) all earned the honor for the first time in softball.  Evavold also earned the honor in women’s basketball this winter.  Marlia Mundorf (Education; Senior; Griswold, Iowa) and  Tianna Soodsma (Education; Senior; Edgerton, Minnesota) were accorded the honor for the second time in their careers.

In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach or sports information director a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.
