(Wednesday, May 8; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference has announced the 2019 All-GPAC softball teams for the recently completed season.
Three Defenders were accorded honors in balloting done by the conference coaches.
Rachel Evavold (Junior; Bloomington, Minnesota) was named to the first-team for the second year in a row after batting .388 with 13 doubles, three homeruns and 18 runs batted in. Evavold posted an 8-7 record with a 3.77 earned run average and struck out 59 batters in 87 innings pitched.
Tianna Soodsma (Senior; Luverne, Minnesota) was named honorable mention for the third time and earned post-season honors for the fourth time. This season Soodsma was 8-9 on the mound with a 2.87 earned run average with 134 innings pitched and 76 strikeouts. Soodsma ends her career with 45 pitching wins (3rd all-time), 300 strikeouts (3rd all-time), five saves (1st all-time) and a 6.12 strikeout to walk ratio (1st all-time).
Marissa VanDenBerg (Junior; Wyoming Michigan) was named to the honorable mention list and she has earned post-season honors after all three of her seasons. She batted .279 this season with eight doubles and 14 runs batted in. She played shortstop and had 122 assists on defense.
The Defenders finished their season 19-23 overall and 10-12 in the GPAC.
