(Wednesday, April 10; Sioux Center, Iowa) Katelyn Beenken, a senior at Algona High School (Iowa), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender volleyball program.

Beenken had 100 kills for the Bulldogs in 2018 and led the team in blocks with 60. She was a third-team all-conference selection in 2018.  Beenken is listed as a 5-11 middle and rightside hitter.

“Katelyn will  provide depth for us in the middle and right side hitter positions.  Having first seen her through our volleyball camps, we were impressed with her collegiate playing potential.  We are grateful for the work that her high school coaches Kayla Limbaugh and Shelley Terhark invested into her development.  Katelyn’s club coaches Hannah Murray and Asarar Gony also helped further her skills. Her desire to serve God and others along with her volleyball athleticism are what make her a great fit for our campus community and volleyball program," said Dordt volleyball coach Chad Hanson.

Beenken is the daughter of Rodney and Shari Beenken of Titonka, Iowa.  She plans to enter the Education program.

Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).

U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine,, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
