Softball Hosts Morningside Today

Dordt will host Morningside on Monday, April 15.  The games will start at 4:00 and were originally scheduled to be played in Sioux Center last Friday but was postponed due to the weather.  The games can be watched on .


Morningside is 19-6 this season and 12-2 in the GPAC with losses to Dakota Wesleyan and Doane in league play. Morningside has won ten games in a row since and has not lost in April.

Morgan Nixon is batting .397 this season with two homeruns and a team high 23 runs batted in. Ellie Cropley has a .378 batting average with two homeruns and 18 runs batted in and Rebeca Riley is batting .371 with two homeruns and 17 runs batted in. Mackenzie Lose bats .338 with 17 runs batted in.  The Mustangs have a team batting average of .331 and has 18 homeruns.

Hallie Misiaszek is 12-2 on the mount with a 1.54 earned run average in 95 innings pitched with 80 strikeouts. Paige Lansink and Alex Nelson both have three wins with 32 and 36 innings pitched respectively. Nelson has 30 strikeouts.


The Defenders are 13-16 this season and 7-7 in the GPAC.

Rachel Evavold is batting .414 with 29 hits and 10 doubles and two homeruns with a .643 slugging percentage. Hailey Heeringa has 25 hits and is batting .284 with six doubles and Marissa Vanden Berg has 25 hits with two homeruns and Carley De Roin and Jessica Oules have 17 and 18 hits respectively.

Tianna Soodsma is 6-5 with a 2.63 earned run average and she has pitched 88 innings with 54 strikeouts. Rachel Evavold is 4-4 with 32 strikeouts and 47 innings pitched.


Dordt and Morningside played on April 17, 2018 with Morningside winning 3-1 in the opener and Dordt prevailed 8-2 in game two. Misiaszek struck out seven in the game one win while Tianna Soodsma won game two while allowing seven hits. Rachel Evavold and Summer Jansen each had doubles in the win.


Dordt’s next games are scheduled for Tuesday, April 23 on the road against Waldorf. The Defenders will then be at home April 24 and 26  against Briar Cliff and Jamestown.
