Busy Weekend For Baseball

Dordt will face Briar Cliff on Friday afternoon, April 5 starting at 2:00 and will meet Jamestown on Saturday at 1:00.  The games against Briar Cliff are in Sioux City and the Jamestown contests are at Open Space Park in Sioux Center and will be available online at .


The Briar Cliff Chargers are 18-13 this season and 8-4 in the GPAC and is coming off a pair of losses at the hands of GPAC frontrunner Concordia on April 2.

Brady Harpenau is batting .299 with 29 hits and has nine runs batted in. Ben Pigg  has 27 hits and has a .273 batting average with 21 runs batted in. Sawyer Olson has a .283 batting average and has 28 runs batted in with 26 hits and he has a team high three homeruns.

Jacob Wesselmann has a 5-1 pitching record with a 2.83 earned run average and has 41 innings pitched with 34 strikeouts. Nicholas Cole has a 4-0 record with a 4.32 earned run average and has 35 strikeouts with 41 innings pitched. Dalen Blair also has four wins and has 23 strikeouts in 32 innings.

Jamestown is 18-10 this season and 8-4 in the GPAC. The Jimmies have won three games in a row and are 6-2 in their last eight games.

Tanner Roundy has a .367 batting average with 36 hits and 22 runs batted in all of which lead the team and he also has 20 stolen bases in 21 tries. Drake Pilat has a .356 batting average and Jaden Yakley has a .283 batting average with 15 runs batted in,

Kensaku Akiya has a 4-0 pitching record in 33 innings pitched and has 25 strikeouts with a 4.32 earned run average. Dru Fitz is 3-2 with a 4.96 earned run average and has 37 strikeouts with 32 innings pitched. Tanner Roundy has 31 strikeouts in 31 innings and has a 2-0 record in five games started.


Dordt is 5-14 this season and 2-10 in the GPAC.

Logan Cline has had a hot start to the season with a .394 batting average and has a team high 28 hits with five doubles, three triples and 18 runs batted in. Dillon Branderhorst has 14 hits with a .250 batting average and has 12 runs batted in with four doubles.  Jason Holwerda is batting .260 with 12 hits and has scored seven runs.  Lucas Nelson has 11 hits and has a .344 batting average with five runs batted in and seven runs scored.

Isaac Vander Hart has pitched 22 innings and has a 2-1 record in five starts with a 4.37 earned run average and has 17 strikeouts.  Cole Vande Vegte has 13 strikeouts in 11 innings and Isaac Buteyn has a 1-3 record in three starts with a team high 25 strikeouts. Luke Drooger has pitched 20 innings and is 2-2 with 18 strikeouts. Logan Horne has pitched 18 innings and has eight strikeouts in four starts.


Dordt lost a pair to Briar Cliff last season on March 21 by scores of 5-4 and 7-2. In the 5-4 loss Zach Fowler had three this and three runs batted in. Brandon Fokkema took the loss with fie runs allowed and struck out five. Luke Drooger took the loss with four runs allowed and struck out three. Colton Van Otterloo and Fowler had two hits. Matt Wesselmann got the win while scattering six hits and struck out one with two runs allowed in five and two-thirds.

Jamestown was a 13-4 winner on March 9 this season in Arizona as the Jimmies broke open a 5-4 game with eight in the ninth inning. Dordt struggled with 12 bases on balls issued. Cline, Chris Schrieber, Josh Vanden Berg and Dillon Branderhorst all had one hit each for the Defenders and Branderhorst had a homerun.
