(Friday, March 29; Sioux Center, Iowa) Cassie Brandsma, a senior at Abbotsford Christian School (British Columbia), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender track and field program.
Brandsma has competed in the high jump and sprints in high school and has personal bests of 1.65 m in the high jump and 1:00 in the 400 meters. She earned third place at the BC Provincial high jump and was a part of a Girls Provincial Championship and Combined Provincial Championship team.
"Cassie will be a great addition to our team next year! She is an excellent all around athlete that will excel in HJ and sprints. Cassie will be a great teammate and will contribute positively to our team in many ways. We are looking forward to her being a Defender next year," said Dordt track and field coach Craig Heynen.
Cassie is the daughter of Paul and Irene Brandsma of Abbotsford, British Columbia. She plans to study Nursing at Dordt.
Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).
