Softball Hosts Dakota Wesleyan This Afternoon

Dordt will host Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00. The doubleheader was originally scheduled to be played in Mitchell, South Dakota but was moved to Sioux Center due to field conditions in Mitchell.  The games can be viewed here 


The Dakota Wesleyan Tigers are 6-16 this season and 1-1 in GPAC play with a split with Mount Marty on March 23.

Wesleyan has a team batting average of .286 and is led by Andriana Thomason with a .455 batting average with 15 hits and two homeruns with ten runs batted in. Sierra Haage has 16 hits and a .421 batting average with three homerusn and 14 runs batted in. Amber Budmark shares team rbi honors with Haage and leads the team with four homeruns and has a .273 batting average. 

Haage has a 4-5 pitching record with a 4.59 earned run average and 58 innings pitched. Haage has 35 strikeouts to lead the team. Kyllie Ramirez, Devaney Farris and Alyson Vander Pol have all pitched significant innings with Vander Pol 1-8 in 33 innings pitched.


The Defenders are 8-9 this season 2-0 in GPAC play after a doubleheader sweep of Northwestern on Tuesday night.. 

Natalie Vos is batting .333 with 11 hits, a triple and 10 runs batted in but will miss time due to an injury against Northwestern. Hailey Heeringa is batting .308 with 16 hits and three doubles and Rachel Evavold has ten hits with a .286 batting average. Marissa Vanden Berg and Carley De Roin both have 12 hits.  

Tianna Soodsma is 4-2 with a 2.19 earned run average and she has pitched 48 innings with 30 strikeouts. Natalie Vos is 3-3 with a 2.82 earned run average and she has 27 strikeouts. Rachel Evavold is 1-1 with a 5.40 earned run average in 11 innings pitched with eight strikeouts.


Rachel Evavold (96) and Hailey Heeringa (97) are nearing 100 career hits while Marissa Vanden Berg (115) is closing in on the top-20 in career hits with (115).  19th all-time is occupied by Bethany Dykstra, Karla Vander Leest and Wendy Poppema  all with 119 hits.

With her win on Tuesday over Northwestern Tianna Soodsma earned her 41st win and is now tied with Wendy Poppema (1996-99) for 3rd all-time. Ruth Draayer (1985-88) is in 2nd with 47 and Dawn Van Kley (2000-03) is on top of the list with 60.


Dordt and Dakota Wesleyan split their doubleheader on April 26, 2018 with Dordt losing the opener 4-1 and winning the nightcap 9-2.  The teams met again on May 4 in post-season play with Dordt prevailing 3-2.  In the post-season game Dordt got one in the first inning and two more in the third with Summer Jansen and Marissa Vanden Berg each recording runs batted in and Rachel Evavold had a double. Haage absorbed the loss after surrendering five hits and Rachel Evavold got the win while giving up two runs on six hits in four and two-third innings and Tianna Top got the save in recording the final seven outs.


Dordt will host Midland on Saturday, March 30 at 1:00.
