Softball Plays Arizona Games

Dordt travels to Tucson, Arizona to compete in 12 games from March 9-15. Dordt starts play by facing Benedictine-Mesa and St. Francis on Saturday at 12:00 and 2:30. Monday the Defenders have late games with Viterbo and Valley City State 3:30 and 5:30.  Aquinas and Dickinson State are on the schedule for Tuesday at 5:30 and 8:00.  All of the times listed are Central.  


Benedictine Mesa—Mesa is 3-13 this season and have lost five games in a row entering play on Friday. Raychele Hernandez is batting .353 with 18 hits and she has nine runs batted in. Marisa Coleman is batting .356 with three homeruns and 15 runs batted in. Rose Soza-Gonzalez is 2-2 on the mound with 13 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched and Vanessa Marquez is 1-4 and leads the team in innings pitched and has 12 strikeouts.

St. Francis—St. Francis (Illinois) is 6-2 this season and has won three games in a row since a 5-4 loss to Madonna on March 5. Paige Egan is batting .632 this season with six runs batted in and a team high 12 hits. Jensen Crenshaw has nine hits and a .600 batting average and Madisen Tycker is batting .364 with eight hits. Taylor Barsz is 3-0 this season with a 2.44 earned run average and has 11 strikeouts in 14 innings of work.

Viterbo—The VHawks are 0-4 this season and their top hitter through four games is Janelle Ulaszek with four hits and she is batting .444 this season. Sonya McCormick is batting .375 and has three hits. Caitlyn Kozik is 0-2 this season with five innings of work and she has four strikeouts. Viterbo used six pitchers in four games.

Valley City State—The Vikings are 14-0 this season and bat .374 as a team. Joelle Aiello has 22 hits and a .458 batting average with seven runs batted in. Marissa Hawkins has 16 runs batted in and has 19 hits with a .432 batting average.  Emily Smith is 11-0 in 55 innings pitched and has a team high 86 strikeouts. Emilee Wilson has pitched in 30 innings and has 33 strikeouts and is 3-0.

Aquinas—Aquinas is 8-5 this season and is batting .304 while opponents are batting .330 against it. Brooke Wila and Izzy Dawson have 16 hits each and Dawson has 11 runs batted in while Wila has two homeruns. Mandy Rosol and Marisa Loya each have three wins with Rosol pitching 32 innings with 22 strikeouts and Loya has 28 innings pitched and 18 strikeouts.

Dickinson State—The Blue Hawks are 3-5 this season with Claire Shoffit and Sonja Lawrence each leading the team with eight hits and Jaya Allen has two homeruns and six runs batted in to go with a .333 batting average. Allen is 2-4 with a 2.42 earned run average on the mound in 34 innings of work.


The Defenders are 2-4 this season after playing in six games in Aberdeen in February. Carley De Roin has a .268 batting average with four hits and Hailey Heeringa and Natalie Vos each have three hits  with Vos knocking in three runs and De Roin also has three runs batted in. Vos and Tianna Soodsma are 1-1 this season with Vos posting a 2.55 earned run average so far and Soodsma has a 3.00 earned run average in 16 innings of work. Soodsma and Vos have nine and eight strikeouts respectively.


Dordt will face Roosevelt, St. Xavier (twice), Robert Morris, Olivet Nazarene and Graceland from Wednesday, March 13 through Friday, March 15.
