Dordt College senior Jonathan Fictorie will be showcasing a collection of photography, pottery, sculpture, and graphic design work in the Dordt Art Gallery in the Campus Center from February 28 to March 17. A reception for the gallery will be on Monday, March 4, at 7 p.m., with a gallery talk from the artist starting at 7:15 p.m.

The photographic work in the gallery is a collection exploring the unnoticed, the abstract, and the personal.

“I want people to slow down and get absorbed in the details of each photo,” says Fictorie. “There’s a special wonder I get when paying close attention to the little details of God’s creation that I try and capture in many of my photos. I hope that comes through to people and gets them to do the same.”

The other works in the gallery portray a wide range of art including hand thrown mugs and bowls, surreal sculpture, marketing design material, and a humorous typography collage. “It’s not enough for me to just work on one project in one medium at a time. I’m constantly finding new mediums to work in and play with,” says Fictorie. “My show is a reflection of those many interests and experiments. I’m always being challenged by practicality and playful artistry, and so that’s why you see such a variety of work here.”

The community is welcome to visit the free exhibit, which is open every day from 8 10 p.m.
