Basketball At Jamestown Tonight

Dordt will travel to Jamestown on Wednesday, February 6 in a GPAC women’s and men’s doubleheader. The women’s game will start at 6:00 with the men to follow at 8:00. The games can be heard on KDCR 88.5 FM and online at

The Jamestown Jimmies are 12-14 this season in women’s play and 6-12 in GPAC play. Jamestown has lost three in a row dating back to a 58-41 win over Mount Marty on January 23. The last two losses for the Jimmies have come in overtime.

Thad Sankey’s team has a 67.7 points per game average and the Jimmies limit opponents to 65.5 points per game. The Jimmies convert 38.2 percent of their field goals and allow 38.2 percent success.  Opponents make 31.2 percent of their three-point shots while Jamestown makes 29.9 percent. Jamestown has gotten to the free throw line 75 fewer times than opponents and make 64 percent of their free throws.  Jamestown averages one less turnover per game than its opponents.

Allison Jablonsky leads a very balanced team with a 13.0 points per game average and she also gets 4.9 rebounds per game. Paige Schmidt is good for 8.7 points per game and Emma Stoehr is good for 8.5.  The Jimmies play 11 players regularly and have nine players averaging five or more points per game.

The Jimmie men are 23-4 this season and 13-4 in the GPAC and have won six in a row dating back to an 86-70 loss to Briar Cliff on the road on January 9. Jamestown has won 12 of its last 13 games dating back to December 8.  Danny Neville’s team has lost to Briar Cliff (twice), Morningside and Dakota Wesleyan.

Jon Purintun and Kevin Oberweiser are as potent a 1-2 punch as there is in the GPAC with scoring averages of 20.1 and 19.2 points per game respectively. Terrell Alfred has come off the bench in all but one game this season and is scoring 12.2 points per game.  Purintun converts 51.2 percent of his field goals and is 43-106 from the three-point line for 40.6 percent success and he gets to the free throw line nearly five times per game and is a 74 percent free throw shooter.  Oberweiser has done most of his damage from behind the three-point line where he is 98-219 for 44.7 percent success and he has a 5.7 rebounds per game average.  Purintun and Oberweiser have 94 and 86 assists respectively and Alfred has made 76 three-point shots. Brock Schrom’s scoring average is 9.9 and Brady Birch is good for 9.0 points per outing. Jack Talley tops the team with a 5.7 rebounds per game average.

Jamestown is averaging 92.5 points per game and allow 78.6 while converting 50.4 percent of its field goals and 41.3 percent of its three-point baskets. The Jimmies also outrebound teams 37.9-33.8 and have forced 414 turnovers while committing 346.


The Defender women are 17-8 overall and 10-7 in the GPAC with losses in the league to Northwestern (twice), Dakota Wesleyan (twice), Morningside (twice) and Concordia. 

Dordt is averaging 83.0 points per game with a 71.0 defensive average. Dordt also outrebounds teams 46.7-36.3 and are converting 44.3 percent of its field goals while allowing 37.9 percent success for opponents.

Erika Feenstra is averaging 22.2 points per game with 60.3 percent field goal shooting and she gets 7.8 rebounds per game. Annie Rhinesmith is good for 12.7 points per game and she is making 32.1 percent of her three-point shots and has made 43 three-point shots. Rachel Evavold is good for 12.2 points per game and 7.0 rebounds and she is making 53.2 percent of her field goals. Payton Harmsen adds 8.0 points per game and Sienna Stamness is at 5.8 points per game and Kenzie Bousema is at a 6.4 points per game average while coming off the bench. Harmsen leads the team with 56 made three-point baskets. Rhinesmith averages 5.1 assists per game. 12 Defenders have played in 21 games or more this season.

The Defender men are 16-10 this season and 8-8 in GPAC play.

Dordt is outscoring teams 82.7-78.8 and outrebound teams 40.9-34.9. Dordt has shot 46.8 percent from the field and allow teams to make 44.3.  The Defenders have converted 359 free throws out of 494 attempts and have limited opponents’ trips to the free throw line to 358.   

Garrett Franken has scored 13.0 points per game and has 27 made three-point baskets with 7.0 rebounds per game. Chad Barkema is scoring 12.0 points per game and is making 56.5 percent of his field goals and Jesse Jansma has an 10.9 points per game average to go with 39 made three-point shots. Alec Henrickson has lifted his scoring average to 11.6 points per game and Josh Van Lingen is at 10.6.  Henrickson is the team leader in made three-point shots with 53 and has made 39.0 percent of his three-point attempts. Zach Bussard is chipping in with 9.7 points per game and Ben Gesink is adding 7.3.


The Jamestown women played four extra overtimes on Monday night, February 4 before falling to Dakota Wesleyan 98-92.  The game was tied 66 all at the end of regulation.  Stoehr played 52 minutes and had 12 points while Jablonsky came off the bench and played 47 minutes and scored 19 points with 10 rebounds. Four other players scored in double figures as the Jimmies converted 30-79 field goals and 12-35 three-point shots. Wesleyan made 87 percent of its free throws while Jamestown converted 20-32 for 63 percent success.  Wesleyan had a 60-53 rebounding advantage.

The Jamestown men took a 43-32 lead at halftime and ran away from Dakota Wesleyan with a 59-31 second half advantage for the 102-63 final. Purintun scored 36 and had four assists and was 13-24 from the field and 5-8 from the arc. Oberweiser scored 18 and took down 10 rebounds. Jamestown had a 47-41 rebounding advantage and committed just six turnovers.

The Defender men needed a buzzer beater by Garrett Franken to secure an 82-80 win over Doane on Saturday. Dordt led by a 41-32 margin at halftime but couldn’t finish off the Tigers until the final second. Franken scored 16 and Henrickson had 16 as well. Van Lingen added 15 points and 10 rebounds and Barkema had nine points.  Dordt converted 31-57 shots to get the win and had a 31-30 rebounding advantage.


The Dordt women won the first meeting between these two teams on Saturday, December 1 99-83. Dordt was up 42-40 at halftime and 72-68 after three quarters.  The Defenders outscored the Jimmies 27-15 in the final period to secure the 16 point win. Feenstra scored 32 while Evavold had 15 points and six rebounds.  Dordt made 30-64 field goals in the win and had a 40-38 rebounding edge. Jamestown was topped by Stoehr with 21 points and Mullen had 19.

The Dordt men were up 39-32 at halftime in the December 2 meeting of the teams and built a 12 point lead early in the second half before the Jimmies came back to tie the game at 84 at the end of regulation. Jamestown outscored Dordt 12-5 in the overtime for a 96-89 win. Josh Van Lingen led Dordt with 21 points and five rebounds while Zach Bussard had 17 points and ten rebounds. Garrett Franken and Jesse Jansma each had 14 points and Chandler Brunsting had five assists.


Dordt will host Midland on Saturday, February 9 with the women’s game at 2:00 and the men at 4:00.
