(Tuesday, January 29; Sioux Center, Iowa) Tanner Smith, a senior at Olathe East High School (Kansas), has announced his intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender soccer program.

Smith is a four-year regular with the Olathe East soccer program and was a starting defender for the Kansas ODP State and Sub-Regional Teams the last three years and helped lead Olathe East to a 2018 6A State Championship.  He also wrestled and competeted in track and field for Olathe East and was the men's soccer Hawk Award Recipient.  Smith was the TOCA Club Soccer Team Captain and earned the Academic Excellence Award in each of his high school years.

"Tanner is a quality player with solid technical ability and a high work rate. His pace and creativity allow him to cover a lot of the pitch while getting involved in the attack. Tanner exemplifies many of the characteristics we are looking for in the young men that we would like this program to be built around. He will not only be a great asset to the soccer program, but also a productive member of the Dordt community," said Dordt College men's soccer coach Ryan Gresse.

Tanner is the son of Brian and Tanya Smith of Olathe, Kansas. He plans to study Engineering at Dordt College.

Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).

U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
