Basketball Hosts Mount Marty

Dordt will host Mount Marty in a GPAC doubleheader play on Wednesday, January 16. The women’s game will start at 6:00 with the men to follow at 8:00. The Mount Marty women are 10-9 this season and 4-9 in the GPAC. Five of Mount Marty’s wins came in a row from December 15-January 2.  The wins for the Lancers in league play are over Jamestown, Doane, the College of Saint Mary and Hastings.

Karlee McKinney is averaging 12.4 points per game with 2.5 rebounds and she is converting 47 percent of her three-point shots. Ali Kuca is good for 11.4 points per game and she makes 37 percent of her three-point shots and she leads the team with 60 made three-point baskets. Jamie Tebben and Sammy Kasowski chip in 9.8 and 8.7 points per game respectively and Karissa Chamley has proven to be a potent outside threat as well with 26 made three-point field goals and 38 percent success.

Mount Marty is averaging 71.8 points per game and allows 72.5.  Teams are shooting 39.6 percent against the Lancers and Mount Marty is converting 42.6 percent of its shots. Mount Marty outrebounds teams 38.3-35.1 but have been forced into 357 turnovers over the course of its 19 games and have forced 255.

Mount Marty is 6-15 this season and 2-10 in the GPAC with league wins over Midland and Concordia. The Lancers have lost four games in a row and played Hastings to a 66-62 decision on Saturday, January 12.

Colby Johnson leads the team with a 15.7 points per game average and he grabs five rebounds per game and hands out 2.5 assists per game. Jailen Billings scores 14.6 points per game with 3.3 rebounds and he leads the team with 38 made three-point shots. Jonah Larson and Trevor Olson have scored 7.0 and 6.3 points per game.

The Lancers allow 80 points per game and surrender 68.8. Mount Marty converts 40.4 percent of its field goals and allow 46.3.  Teams are making 35 percent of its three-point shots against the Lancers and the Yankton, South Dakota team is getting outrebounded 39.5-34.


The Defender women are 15-6 overall and 8-5 in the GPAC with losses in the league to Northwestern, Dakota Wesleyan (twice) and Morningside (twice).  The Defenders had a five game winning streak stopped by Dakota Wesleyan and Morningside last week and are currently fifth in the GPAC standings with nine games remaining.

Dordt is averaging 84.0 points per game with a 71.2 defensive average. Dordt also outrebounds teams 46.3-36.5 and are converting 44.6 percent of its field goals while allowing 38.2 percent success for opponents.

Erika Feenstra is averaging 23.5 points per game with 62.6 percent field goal shooting and she gets 8.0 rebounds per game. Annie Rhinesmith is good for 12.8 points per game and she is making 32.8 percent of her three-point shots and has made 38 three-point shots. Rachel Evavold is good for 11.8 points per game and 7.0 rebounds and she is making 51.1 percent of her field goals. Payton Harmsen adds 8.4 points per game and Sienna Stamness is at 6.1 points per game and Kenzie Bousema is at a 6.0 points per game average. Harmsen leads the team with 46 made three-point baskets. Rhinesmith averages 4.8 assists per game.

The Defender men are 13-8 this season and 6-6 in GPAC play. The Defenders have league losses to Northwestern, Jamestown, Briar Cliff and Morningside (twice). 

Dordt is outscoring teams 81.2-77.5 and outrebound teams 41.3-35.5. Dordt has shot 45.9 percent from the field and allow teams to make 43.3 percent of its shots.  

Jesse Jansma is scoring 11.9 points per game and has made 34 three-point shots. Garrett Franken is scoring 12.5 points per game with 7.4 rebounds. Chad Barkema and Josh Van Lingen have scored 11.7 and 11.1 points per game respectively and take in 5.8 rebounds each.  Barkema is making 54.9 percent of his field goal attempts and Van Lingen is at 49.7. Zach Bussard is scoring 9.3 points per game with 5.0 rebounds and converts 56.8 percent of his field goal tries. Alec Henrickson is good for 10.5 points per game and Ben Gesink is at 7.3. Henrickson has made 44 three-point shots and leads the Defenders in that category and has made 39.3 percent of his long tries.


Mount Marty was an 80-70 winner in overtime over Hastings on Saturday behind 17 points from Kasowski and 16 points each by McKinney and Tebben. The Lancers limited Hastings to 35.2 percent field goal shooting and 24 percent from the three-point line.

Dordt overcame two double-digit deficits but fell 91-83 on Saturday at Morningside in GPAC play. The Defenders were led by Erika Feenstra with 15 points and Rachel Evavold converted 14.  Both had seven and six rebounds each. Kenzie Bousema and Baylee Tetzlaff had 12 and 11 points each as Dordt converted 28-71 field goals.

Hastings beat Mount Marty 66-62 with Johnson scoring 20 and Billings added 16. The Lancers forced 16 turnovers and committed 13. Hastings had a 42-30 rebounding edge in the game and won in spite of 20.7 percent three-point shooting.

Dordt led in the second half but couldn’t sustain the lead in a men’s game with conference leader Morningside on Saturday before falling 94-92.  Alec Henrickson matched a career high with 36 points and converted 6-8 three-point shots. Josh Van Lingen added 18 and Ben Gesink came off the bench to score 12 with Garrett Franken adding ten to go with seven rebounds—sharing team honors with Van Lingen in that category.


The Defenders were 87-75 winners over the Lancers in Yankton back in November with Annie Rhinesmith scoring 18 to go with seven assists. Rachel Evavold added 17 points and six rebounds and Erika Feenstra contributed 16 point with six rebounds. The Lancers got 17 points from Chamley and Kuca added 16. Dordt converted 43.3 percent to Mount Marty’s 41. Dordt trails the series 52-31.

Dordt was an 81-56 winner over Mount Marty on November 7 and had a 37-18 halftime edge. Barkema had 17 points and six rebounds with three assists. Franken added 15 and had eight rebounds. Jansma converted nine and Brunsting had eight points and six rebounds with five assists.  Chase Altenburg scored 12 and Jonah Larson scored 11. Dordt leads the series 55-47.


The Dordt women will host the College of Saint Mary on Saturday, January 19 at 2:00 while the men will host Nebraska Christian. The game with Nebraska Christian was originally scheduled to be played in Lincoln, Nebraska but was moved to Sioux Center.
