Vandermeer to Compete For Defenders

(Friday, December 21; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Ashley Vandermeer, a senior at Deubrook Area High School (South Dakota), has announced her intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender track and field program.

Vandermeer has had a decorated high school career and is a three-time state champion in the triple jump.  She claimed first in the long jump in 2018 after finishing fourth and fifth the previous two seasons.  Her second place finish in the 200 meters last year came after two fourth place finishes in 2017 and 2016. She also ran on a 4x400 meter relay team that won the title in 2018 after runner-up finishes in 2016 and 2017.

Vandermeer has school records in the 100 meters (12.3), 200 meters (25.7)  and the 4x400 (4.07).  Her personal bests in the triple jump and long jump of 36-1.5 and 17-3.

"We are very excited that Ashley chose Dordt College! She will make an immediate impact for our women’s team in the sprints and jumps.  Ashley is very versatile and a great athlete.  She has a positive attitude and will be a great addition to the team.  We are looking forward to working with her," said Dordt College track and field coach Craig Heynen.

Ashley is the daughter of Sako and Wiekie Vandermeer of White, South Dakota.

Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). 

U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine,, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
