The Midland women are 7-5 this season and 4-4 in the GPAC. Midland started the year with three straight wins. The wins for Midland in league play are over Doane, Mount Marty, Collete of Saint Mary and Morningside.
Maddie Egr leads the team with a 14.7 points per game average and is converting 50.4 percent of her field goal attempts and she has a 7.3 rebounds per game average. Amanda Hansen is good for 11.6 points per game and Lexis Haase is scoring 7.3 points per gamewith 4.3 rebounds and she has made 13 three-point field goals. Madison Severson and Maddie Meadows have converted 14 and 15 three-point shots respectively.
The Warriors are averaging 68.7 points per game and allow 66.3 points per outing. Midland has a 38-34 rebounding advantage and average three fewer turnovers than opponents per game. Midland converts 38.8 percent of its field goals and 28.4 percent of its three-point shots. Teams are making 42 percent of their field goals against Midland in women’s play.
The Midland men have been outscored on average 79-76 this season and have converted 48 percent of their field goals while allowing teams to make 48 as well. Teams are outrebounding Midland 32.3-31.8.
Bryce Parsons is good for 16.7 points per game and Malik Martin adds 13.6 points per game. Bowen Sandquist adds 11.4 points per game with 30 made three-point baskets and Reggie Gradwell is good for 9.0 points per game and Sam Brown gets 6.8 rebounds per game.
Dordt’s women are 10-4 this season and 5-3 in the GPAC. Morningside, Northwestern and Dakota Wesleyan have beaten Dordt in GPAC play and the Defenders lost a non-conference game to Bellevue on Tuesday night.
Dordt’s women are averaging 84.8 points per game and limit teams to 69.4 points per outing. Dordt also has a 47-37 rebounding advantage and has converted 45.9 percent of its field goals and 33 percent of its three-point shots.
Erika Feenstra averages 25.4 points per game and takes in 8.6 rebounds and she is making 64 percent of her field goals. Annie Rhinesmith averages 13.4 points per game with 5.1 rebounds with 5.2 assists per game. Rachel Evavold has a 10.9 points per game average and she gets 7.4 rebounds per outing. Payton Harmsen is scoring 9.3 points per outing and Siennah Stamness contributes 5.9 points. Both have been limited by injury recently. Harmsen leads the team with 36 made three-point shots and Rhinesmith has 28 made three-point field goals. Kenzie Bousema has scored 6.1 points per game since joining the team at the conclusion of the soccer season and is converting 51.2 percent of her field goals.
The Defender men are 9-5 this season and 3-4 in the GPAC. Dordt was 8-2 through November 24 but lost three in a row in GPAC play before getting back in the win column with a win over Hastings on Saturday.
Dordt is outscoring teams 82-77 and outrebound teams 43-37. Dordt is shooting 45 percent from the floor and allow teams to convert 43 percent success. Dordt has converted 36 percent of its three-point shots and have gotten to the free throw line 19 times per game while opponents are getting to the charity stripe less than 15 times per game.
Jesse Jansma averages 13.4 points per game and has made 25 three-point field goals. Garrett Franken averages 13.1 points per game with a team high 7.9 rebounds per game and he has made 18 three-point shots. Chad Barkema averages 12.0 points per game and gets 5.7 rebounds and Josh Van Lingen is good for 11.4 points per game with 5.3 rebounds. Zach Bussard has lifted his average to 9.4 and he gets 5.1 rebounds. Barkema also averages just under three assists per game. Ben Gesink’s average is 8.0 points per game and Alec Henrickson is at 8.9 points per game and has a team high 26 made three-point baskets.
The Midland Warrior women lost to Northwestern in Orange City 95-71 after trailing 50-31 at halftime. Northwestern scored 27 points in both the first and third periods. Egr, Hansen and Sullivan all had 14 points. Midland was outrebounded 53-40.
A shorthanded Dordt women’s team lost a 78-76 decision to Bellevue on December 11. Dordt trailed by as many as ten in the second half and led by as many as seven before falling by the two point verdict. The Defenders were limited to 40 percent field goal shooting and had a 51-26 rebounding advantage. Erika Feenstra scored 24 points with 14 rebounds and Annie Rhinesmith converted 12 poitns with seven assists and two steals. Bousema scored ten and had six rebounds while Rachel Evavold and Ebby Prewitt each had eight points.
Midland made a 37-30 halftime lead stand up as the Warriors beat Northwestern on Saturday in Orange City 74-73. Parsons had 21 points and six rebounds and Dillon Faubel scored 13.
The Dordt men built a double digit lead in the second half and held on as Hastings charged back to within four points late in the game but Dordt held on for the 81-75 win. Jansma had 18 points with five rebounds. Bussard added 17 with eight rebounds and Henrickson came off the bench to score 15. Barkema had a team high 10 rebounds with ten points and three assists.
The Dordt women split their games with Midland last season with an 89-84 loss on December 9 in Fremont and a 75-57 win in Sioux Center on January 27. Dordt got 13 points each from Rachel Evavold and Siennah Stamness in the win and Harmsen added 11 with Bousema tossing in 10. Midland was paced by Maddie Egr with 20 points and six rebounds.
The Defender men split with Midland as both teams won on the road. In the December 9 meeting Dordt won an 80-62 decision in Fremont. Jansma went for 27 in the win and was 7-11 from the three-point line. Henrickson had 12 points while Isaiah Workman had 11. Midland came back to win the January 27 game in Sioux Center 99-95. Brunsting had 23 for the Defenders and Jansma put in 17. Nick Wood scored 23 for the Warriors in the win and Shak Triplett scored 22.
The Defenders resume play on December 28 and 29 in Orange City at a classic hosted by Northwestern. The Defender women will play at 2:00 and 12:00 on Friday and Saturday while the men will play the game following them at 2:00 and 4:00.
