Van Kempen, Van Eps Hit Qualifying Standards

(Monday, December 10; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Two Dordt College track and field athletes have hit qualifying standards for the NAIA National Championships held February 28-March 2 at Brookings, South Dakota.

Ike Van Kempen (Senior; Jenison, Michigan) hit the automatic qualifying standard in the weight through on Friday, December 7 at a meet hosted by Buena Vista in Storm Lake, Iowa.  Van Kempen had a throw of 60-8 to establish a new school record in the event, bettering the previous mark of 59-2.25 held by David Davelaar.  Van Kempen’s throw was nearly four feet better than his previous personal best.

Matthew Van Eps (Sophomore;  Prinsburg) has reached the provisional mark in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.14 which was recorded in a meet at Brookings, South Dakota on November 29.  Van Eps’s time is the seventh fastest run in school history.

The indoor track and field season will resume Friday, January 18 at a meet hosted by South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota.  The GPAC Championships will be run in Seward, Nebraska on February 15-16.
