Dordt will host the Jamestown Jimmies on Saturday, December 1 beginning at 1:00 with the women’s game. The men’s contest is scheduled to start at 3:00. The Jamestown women are 5-4 this season and 2-3 in the GPAC with wins over Briar Cliff and Doane and losses to Concordia, Dakota Wesleyan and Mount Marty in their last three outings.
The Lady Jimmies are scoring 63 points per game and allow 60. Marina Nowak scores a team high 9.6 points per game and comes off the bench. Jory Mullen is good for 8.9 points per game and Noelle Josephson adds 7.6 with Emma Stoehr at 7.2.
The Jamestown men are 9-2 this season and 3-2 in the GPAC and have won five of the last six. The Jimmies score 93 points and allow 77 and the are outrebounding teams 37.6-32.5. Jamestown is converting 50.7 percent of its field goals and 41 percent of its three-point shots.
Kevin Oberweiser scores 20 points per game with 4.4 rebounds and Jon Purintun adds 19 points per game. Terrell Alfred adds 13.3 while Brock Schrom is at 9.0 points per game.
Dordt’s women are 7-3 this season and 2-3 in the GPAC. Morningside handed Dordt its first loss of the season on November 10 after the Defenders started the season 5-0 and Dakota Wesleyan nipped the Defenders by four the next game. Dordt’s third loss was to Northwestern on Wednesday night.
Dordt’s women are averaging 85 points per game and limit teams to 69 points per outing. Dordt also has a 48-37 rebounding advantage and has converted 46.1 percent of its field goals and 34 percent of its three-point shots.
Erika Feenstra averages 25.6 points per game and takes in 8.5 rebounds and she is making 65.3 percent of her field goals. Annie Rhinesmith averages 14.2 points per game with 5.5 rebounds with five assists per game. Rachel Evavold has a 10.3 points per game average and she gets 7.6 rebounds per outing. Payton Harmsen is scoring 9.9 points per outing and Siennah Stamness contributes 5.3 points per outing with Ebby Prewitt at 3.9.
The Defender men are 8-3 this season and 2-2 in the GPAC. Dordt’s losses in league play are to Morningside and Northwestern and its other loss is a loss to Graceland.
Dordt is outscoring teams 82-75 and has a 41.9-35.3 rebounding edge. Dordt’s converting 46.1 percent of its field goals and 36.2 percent of its three-point shots while limiting opponents to 46.1 percent field goal success.
Garrett Franken is scoring 13.8 points per game with 7.7 rebounds and Jesse Jansma is at 13.7 and shares team honors in three-point baskets made with Alec Henrickson at 18. Chad Barkema is at 11.8 points per game with 56 rebounds and he is converting nearly 60 percent of his field goals. Josh Van Lingen and Ben Gesink round out the double digit scoring with 11.2 and 10.3 points per game respectively. Chandler Brunsting is good for 4.7 rebounds and he leads the team in assists at a shade under three.
Mount Marty beat Jamestown on November 28 78-64 with Paige Schmidt scoring nine and Noelle Josephson scored 11 off the bench. Mount Marty outrebounded the Jimmies 37-34 and the Lancers had 47.2 percent success shooting from the floor.
The Defender women lost to Northwestern 91-84 on Wednesday night despite a record setting performance by Erika Feenstra. The sophomore went 17-22 from the field and 9-14 from the free throw line for 43 points and a new school record. She also had nine rebounds and one steal. Rhinesmith added 15 with six rebounds and six assists and Rachel Evavold chipped in with 13 and had 10 rebounds and two assists.
Jamestown jumped out to a 44-21 first half lead and went on to defeat Mount Marty in Jamestown on Wednesday 84-65. Purintun poured in 26 while Oberweiser had 17 and Schrom scored 12. The Jimmies had a 42-39 rebounding advantage and converted 43 percent of its field goals and had eight turnovers to 15 for the Lancers.
A 12-0 run to start the second half doomed the Defenders against Northwestern in men’s play Wednesday. Dordt did battle back to within two on a pair of occasions but only had one shot to take the lead before falling 74-69. Van Lingen and Zach Bussard each had 14 and combined for ten rebounds with four and six each. Chandler Brunsting added 11 with eight rebounds and Barkema had nine points and four assists.
This is the first GPAC meeting between these two but the teams have played several times over the last 15 years. The Jamestown women won last year’s game 90-63 with Feenstra scoring 18 and Rhinesmith had 14 with five assists and seven rebounds. Dordt was down 42-30 at halftime
Jamestown won last year’s men’s game on November 4 99-82 after leading 54-46. Jesse Jansma had 11 and Kobe Critchley scored ten for the Defenders. Leighton Sampson led the Jimmies with 23 and Oberweiser added 21 in the win.
Dordt will be on the road to face Briar Cliff in Sioux City, Iowa on Wednesday, December 5.
