Families Needed to Connect with International Students

Dordt’s International Friendship Family (IFF) program is seeking families to connect and build relationships with one or more international students on a monthly basis. Students will learn more about U.S. culture, while families will benefit from learning about their student’s culture.

“The mission of IFF is to celebrate and embrace diversity and cultural awareness, and to build a local support system for international students,” says Rebecca Tervo, coordinator of off-campus and multicultural student programs.

Some ways families can support their students include:

  • Inviting your student over for dinner
  • Meeting for coffee or ice cream
  • Including your student in holidays like Christmas and Easter
  • Attending events on campus your student is involved in

“You don’t have to be a typical family to get involved—we welcome singles to participate as well,” says Tervo. “We encourage anyone to get involved!”
