Four New Options for Business Students

The Business Administration (BUAD) program has created four new emphases including:

  • New management emphasis
  • New office management emphasis for B.A. students
  • Revised marketing emphasis with an interpersonal track
  • Revised marketing emphasis with a digital track

The change comes after the department conducted a program review during Fall 2017.  An alumni survey, focus groups, discussions, and a momentum in the department towards hands-on projects, service learning, and experiential learning were the driving forces behind the decision.

“I am so excited about the recent changes and updates to our business program offerings,” says Dr. Brian Hoekstra, department chair and BUAD professor. “There is currently a demonstrated market demand for administrative assistant (A.A.) and office management skills.”

The management emphases are expected to meet this demand, attracting students who would like to grow their management skills, and equip current students who want to transition from the two year A.A. program into a four year B.A. program.

“Of the ten total BUAD emphases, marketing is the broadest and most popular,” says Dale Zevenbergen, BUAD instructor. “The creative and technical, or digital track, will equip students for service in advertising, public relations, or digital marketing areas. The interpersonal side is more related to selling and retail opportunities.”
