(Wednesday, July 21; Sioux Center, Iowa) Bethany Vasecka, a student at UW-River Falls (Wisconsin), has announced her intention to attend Dordt University and join the basketball and track programs.

“We are excited to welcome Bethany to Dordt and our women’s basketball program.  Bethany is a tough competitor and a great athlete that will impact the game on both ends of the floor.  Bethany’s faith is very important to her and we’re excited to watch her grow and excel at Dordt,” said Dordt basketball coach Bill Harmsen.  

All-Star Seasons For Summer Baseball Players

(Tuesday, July 20; Sioux Center, Iowa) Two Dordt University baseball players earned spots on All-Star teams at the respective leagues they are playing in this summer as they look to hone their skills after all-GPAC performances this spring.

Gyeongju Kim, fresh off a 5-4 pitching campaign is with the Great Bend Bat Cats in the Sunflower College League and Logan Cline, coming off a record setting year with the Defenders, is playing for the Joplin Outlaws in the MINK League.

(Monday, March 3; Sioux Center, Iowa) Graham Cassoutt, a graduate of Papillion La Vista South High School (Nebraska), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program.

“Graham is a skilled big man that has made a lot of 3’s in his career.  He has been part of a winning high school team, has been well coached, and we look forward to his growth as a player, person, and in the classroom,” said Dordt basketball coach Brian Van Haaften.

(Monday, July 19; Sioux Center, Iowa) Adeline Bergstrom,  a graduate of Omaha Christian Academy and recent student at the University of Nebraska, has announced her intention to enroll at Dordt and join the Defender soccer and track programs.

“We are excited to welcome Adeline to the Defender Track and Field family!  It will be fun to work with her and we look forward to helping her develop as a sprinter/jumper,” said Dordt track and field coach Craig Heynen.

Stevens To Join Defender Hockey

(Monday, July 19; Sioux Center, Iowa) Hayden Stevens, a graduate of Waukee High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt University and join the Defender hockey program.

“Hayden is a young man who will help bring stability to the goaltender position for us,” said Dordt hockey coach Tyler Morgan. “More importantly Hayden is ready to challenge to himself to grow both on and off the ice. He is exactly the type of player and person and we are looking for and we are lucky to add him to our program.”

Wind Symphony receives tremendous honor in being named finalist

Dordt University’s Wind Symphony has been named a finalist in the University Wind Band Division for the American Prize Competition for the Performing Arts.

“The exceptional performances and work ethic the students have shown over the past two years is what has enabled this wonderful recognition,” Dr. Onsby Rose, director of instrumental studies and associate professor of music, says. “Being named a finalist is a tremendous honor.”

Safewise.com has named Sioux Center the safest town in the state of Iowa for 2021. This ranking is based on FBI crime statistics and population data and is calculated from violent and property crime numbers. According to the site, Sioux Center residents have a 0.4% chance of experiencing a violent crime, a 2.7% chance of experiencing a property crime, and a 3.1% chance of experiencing any type of crime.

Van Wyngarden Added To Soccer Program

(Monday, June 14; Sioux Center, Iowa) Elle Van Wyngarden, a recent graduate of Ripon Christian (California), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender soccer program.

“We are looking forward to Elle joining us in August. Elle is an athlete with killer speed and that is something that we could use up top. Elle will be a great fit for our program spiritually, academically and athletically. We can’t wait to get her on campus,” said Dordt soccer coach Alex Durbin.

Dordt offers 100% online Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) course sequence

Dordt University will begin offering an online Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) course sequence starting this fall. The sequence, which is approved by the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI), meets the course requirements for the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification exam. Dordt University has the lowest per foot utility cost in the state among Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (IAICU) of similar size, according to a recent financial benchmarking report released by the IAICU.

The per foot utility cost is calculated by comparing the cost of utilities for the institution as a whole to the total square footage of Dordt’s buildings.

Tuuk Commits To Dordt

(Monday, June 7; Sioux Center, Iowa) Sydnee Tuuk, a graduate of Illiana Christian High School (Indiana), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender soccer program.

Tuuk is a 5-7 midfielder who claimed Academic All-State honors in 2020 and 2021 and she was named the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Illiana Christian.  She was a part of a regional championship in 2018.
