Creighton def. Dordt 5-4

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dordt hockey team fell in the final minute to Creighton in a high-scoring, back and forth matchup.

Alex Espenson helped the Defenders get on the scoreboard late in the first period, scoring with five seconds remaining in the first to give Dordt a 1-0 lead.

The second period saw three total goals scored, including two in a one-minute timeframe for Creighton, giving the Bluejays a 2-1 lead. Espenson scored another goal on the assist from Jacob Petrie to tie the game.

Dordt opened the third period with a goal as Eli Visscher snuck a shot past the elbow of the Creighton goalie to make the score 3-2. Minutes later, Alex Espenson gave Dordt a 4-2 advantage on his third goal of the night. Creighton then scored three unanswered goals, started by a powerplay goal from Zach Kubicek. Joe Middleton tied the game with eight minutes remaining, and it was a Kubicek goal on the breakaway that proved to be the game winner, as Creighton escaped with a 5-4 road win.
