NAIA National Semifinals
Missouri Baptist def. Dordt 3-2 (25-20, 25-15, 14-25, 19-25, 15-13)
Dordt’s run through the NAIA National Championship field ended in the semifinal round of the bracket in a 3-2 loss to Missouri Baptist.
The Defenders dropped sets one and two by scores of 25-20 and 25-15 with the Spartans limiting Dordt’s chances at the net.
Dordt rallied in set three with a fast start and built an 11-3 lead while taking advantage of two attack errors and a termination block to cap an eight point run. The Spartans never recovered and Dordt led won the set 25-14.
Set tow stayed close until a Dordt run of four points in a row pushed a 14-13 lead up to 18-13. The lead grew to 21-14 with a block by Brenna Krommendyk and Corrina Timmermans and back to back blocks by the Defenders eventually ended the set after Missouri Baptist had the lead down to 23-19.
The Spartans recovered from the two sets lost to forge a 12-9 lead. The Defenders fought back with an Alli Timmermans kill and a pair of Missouri Baptist attack errors which forced a timeout. The Spartans stopped the slide with a kill but Dordt answered with a block by Alli Timmermans and Krommendyk but a kill and a service ace ended the set and the match with the Spartans surviving the Dordt upset bid.
Missouri Baptist had a 66-45 kills advantage but Dordt committed just 16 attack errors while the Spartans had 36.
Dordt scored 19 points on blocks while Missouri Baptist had nine. Both teams had two service aces.
Brenna Krommendyk had 13 kills and 10 block assists while Corrina Timmermans had 11 kills and 13 digs.
Jessi De Jager added nine kills and Alli Timmermans had eight with eight block assists. Jori Bronner had seven block assists and Hannah Connelly had a team high 16 digs.
Megan Raszler and Corina Beimers had 21 and 16 assists each.
Dordt ends their season with an 18-7 record. Missouri Baptist will play Midland in the NAIA National Championship on Saturday night.
