Northwestern def. Dordt 5-2 (9 innings)
The Dordt Defenders lost a 5-2 decision to Northwestern on Saturday afternoon in game one of their doubleheader in Sioux Center.
Dordt got on the board with a run on three hits on an Austin Pullar single followed by a John Emerson single. Logan Cline than worked for a walk and Chase Edwards followed with a single that score Pullar.
Northwestern got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth and then took the lead with a run in the top of the seventh.
Dordt was able to even the score with Andrew Pullar getting hit by a pitch with one out. Austin Pullar than walked and John Emerson singled to centerfield. Andrew Pullar was thrown out at home trying to score on the play.
Logan Cline then delivered a single that scored Austin Pullar and the inning ended with the winning run on third base.
Dordt got a leadoff single in the eighth inning from Connor Hommes but the runner was stranded at second when the inning came to an end. In the top of the nintha Northwestern got a walk and with two outs a batter reached on an error. The next batter, Mason Porepp hit a three-run homerun for the eventual 5-2 win.
Dordt got a runner on in the ninth but couldn’t move them around.
John Emerson was 3-5 at the plate for Dordt.
Connor Hommes had two singles.
All 11 of Dordt’s hits were singles.
Logan Horne was Dordt’s starter and went six innings and allowed four hits with two runs and six strikeouts.
Nick Yeager was charged with the loss in giving up three unearned runs with six strikeouts in three innings of relief.
