SCORE
Dordt def. Hastings 74-67
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first quarter was evenly matched throughout and both teams were hitting their shots early in the game. After an Erika Feenstra three made the game 13-10 in favor of the Defenders, Hastings answered with a 6-0 run, followed by Ashtyn Veerbeek's three to tie the game back up. Hastings received a couple of baskets in the paint by Alli Smith, however, to make the score 22-16 at the end of the first.
After a few early points for Dordt, Hastings stretched their lead to 12 points through the second quarter, and finished their run with a three-pointer by Kaitlyn Schmit. Erika Feenstra scored on the fast break to come within 7, but the Broncos responded by gaining back five more points before the break, giving them a 46-34 halftime lead.
Dordt began to rally back at the onset of the third quarter, going on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to two points. Those were the only two points the Defenders allowed in the third quarter, and Mya Chmielewski went 2/2 on a trip to the free throw line to tie up the score at 48 each after three quarters.
Hastings regained their scoring output in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, taking a 54-49 lead nearly two minutes in. After the timeout, Jordyn Winterfeld made a three and Erika Feenstra added three more points to give Dordt their first lead since the first quarter. Down by 1 with just over three minutes to go, Baylee Tetzlaff made a three-pointer to give Dordt a two point lead in the final minutes. The Defenders closed the game with good free throw shooting to give Dordt a .500 record 10 games into the season.

COACH HARMSEN SAID
"I was proud of our how women responded after halftime. It was good to see everybody step up in the second half. There were three big threes late in the second half to give us good separation. In the second half, Erika came up with a few huge offensive rebounds and made some big shots late in the game. The Northwestern-Dordt game is a really good rivalry and it's on our floor, so we have to play our game on our floor. We're really looking forward to playing Northwestern on Wednesday night."
