Dordt def. Midland 83-72
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defenders battled past a persistent Midland Warrior team to open the GPAC season with an 83-72 win in Fremont, Nebraska on Saturday, November 14.
Dordt trailed by as many as five in the first half but rallied from the 20-15 deficit to lead 32-26 as Jesse Jansma knocked down a three-point basket to cap the five minute turnaround. The two teams played even for the rest of the half with the score tied 40-40 with 1:53 left in the half. Garrett Franken got a bucket to go and a Jesse Jansma steal with :13 left in the half led to a Bryce Coppock basket and Dordt led 44-40 at halftime.
The teams were tied 46-46 early in the second half but Dordt never relinquished the lead and pulled away from a 60-60 tie with 9:41 left in the game to outscore the hosts 23-12 to secure its fifth straight win.
Dordt had five players in double figures and converted nearly 60 percent of their field goals.
Midland made up for 40 percent field goal shooting by making 15 three-point baskets.
Both teams had 34 rebounds and Dordt went 14-22 from the free throw line while Midland was 5-11.
Jacob Vis led a balanced Dordt attack with 17 points on 6-8 field goal shooting and he took in seven rebounds with two assists.
Garrett Franken had 15 points and eight rebounds.
Cade Bleeker scored 13 with five rebounds and was a perfect 4-4 from the floor, 3-3 from the three-point line and 2-2 on free throw attempts.
Jesse Jansma added 12 points and had five assists and Ben Gesink had 11 points and six rebounds.
Bryce Coppock came off the bench to score nine points.
Midland’s Emanuel Bryson scored a game high 23.
Dordt is now 5-0 overall and 0-1 in the league.
Midland slides to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the league.
